Hello, I have been wanting to get into this thread. Just hadn't worked on anything in a while. I have posted two previews of PSA's that I am working on for our short film festival. Please watch and give comments. Copy/paste into browser: http://homepage.mac.com/marlenemike/SOTR/iMovieTheater12.html http://homepage.mac.com/marlenemike/SOTR/iMovieTheater13.html Mike M

    Hi all,

I added a couple of clips to my demo reel website.  The "TNA Wrestling" and "Boxing Lesson" clips are new.

The little bar graphs my web host provides go up whenever anybody clicks on the site, and I get an inordinate amount of joy from that, so thanks to everyone who visits. Cool [H]

Nice stuff Carl, I hope my visit to your site was as enjoyable for you as it was for me.

Though, I have to say I was a little disappointed that there wasn't much "T & A" in the TNA Wrestling as I thought there'd be.

lol!  Thanks, Kenton.  You should have seen the stuff we didn't use. Wink [;)]  One of the perks of editing sports is the incredibly high number of cheerleader/hot girl shots that sports camera guys shoot when there's no action on the field.

Carl, I second Kenton's sentiment (try saying that twice): I didn't catch a glimpse of any "TNA," Brother! Stick out tongue [:P]

I was quite hopeful, but you let me down. (j/k.)

    Nice work! Smile [:)]

Re: Demo Reels and show YOUR stuff part II

    Hey Packman,

Thanks for the comment!  It depends on which clip you're talking about. Smile [:)]  The football stuff was shot on film by NFL Films, basketball and wrestling stuff came from whatever network the game or match was on in standard def, Mazatlan and Mr T were shot in BetaSP on a UVW-100 and a DXC-637 (I think; that one was a while ago), and the boxing lesson was shot on DigiBeta, but I don't know what kind of camera.

Hope that makes sense, and thanks again for the kind words.

    later,
    Carl

    Hey pack...

On the bluegrass video, I didn't really see any "editing" per se.  There was one music notes transition that you could've used to mix into a different song or whatever, but it just went right back into the same song?   And the camera composition was a little "off"... way too much head room on the group shot and then when the otherwise static shot zooms into the lead singer, there's no "look" room... in fact, the banjo player's face is cut in half by the edge of the frame.  The PIP of the bass player was kind of odd as well, it made me wonder "if they had two cameras, why didn't they just get another angle that included the the bass player and do cross cuts?"  Also, I'm not a graphics guy myself, but the opening/closing graphics left a little to be desired as well.

For the horse video, your dissolves don't really "work" with the music...also, you can see the camera movement bleedthrough on the outgoing side.  There's a great maxim that most professional editors live by:  "if it won't work as a cut, then it's not going to work as a dissolve."  It was evident you were trying to "cover up" bad cuts with the dissolves.  The gfx near the end where is says: "2006 stud fee 500$".... the "$" usually comes BEFORE the number.  The "Canrun Stables" gfx is very hard to read.

There was also a PIP with a soft edge that appeared in the corner for a brief bit, but I couldn't make out what it was, then it turned into your logo(?)

I was wondering what you used to shoot/edit with?  I saw a couple transitions that I know are not included in Avid.
