Re: 8.5 and Quicktime_OPServer (not responding) issues

    Hi Erik,

Normally when Avid runs , you will see a process called "AvidBinIndexer" When you open the console in Avid. ( Tool menu > Console ) and type "DisableSearch" "enter" ( without the ")you will see following message in the console 'Search client support will be disabled on subsequent launches.'

Close Avid , and relaunch.  The AvidBinIndexer process should now be deactivated.

    Kind regards,

    Rob.

Thanks Rob. I tried that but didn´t work. The spinning ball just came up again and I had to force quite and reboot. Loosing some work. This happens like 5-10 times a day.

    Hi Erik,

Any playback hardware connected ?  If so try without. ( physically I mean. The disconnect hardware in avid does not unload the drivers )

This may not have anything to do with your problem, but do you have Fast Scrub enabled?  In the past it has caused beach balls.  I just disable it in all systems.  It may be fixed, but I would not know.

Did you try and launch QuickTime Player  and go into its Preferences, deselect the "Show Content Guide automatically" and then quit QT.  Launch your Media Composer and is the problem gone?

Yes I have it enabled. But I just unchecked it now. We´ll see if anything changes. Thanks for the tip.

Re: 8.5 and Quicktime_OPServer (not responding) issues

Hmm, I can´t seem to find the "preferences" in my Quicktime player. The version of Quicktime I have is 10.5 and there is no "preferences" in the menu at all...

    Hi Marianna,

    macOS Sierra 10.12.6

It was fine until a month or so ago. Now certain sequences either crash straight away or hang.

    Any thoughts?

Can you run the disk utility on your internal drive please?  See if that works and then report back please.

    Hi

Do you mean First aid in the Disc Utility? I have run that and no problems identified.

Has not made any difference to the

    Quicktime_OPServer (not responding) issue though

Re: 8.5 and Quicktime_OPServer (not responding) issues

    Mi Marianna,

Just to update. It starts up ok provided the sequence in use has no .mov /.mp4 ama'd clips showing in the monitor (it is mostly ama to RED files). As soon as you click over a .mov or .mp4 so it displays in the monitor,  2 red Quicktime_OPServer (not responding) errors pop up in the activity monitor and either it keeps running for a bit before crashing, or crashes straight away. If the curser is not already over a .mov / .mp4 then there is no error but if you try an output, the errors appear as before.

    Alex
