MC 8.44, Sorenson Squeeze 8.5 Standard
I want to transform a DNxHD120/25p (6 hours) to H264 and try to send the sequence to Sorenson Squeeze (so I dont have to transform to a .mov first).
That never worked. Sending to SS never ever worked for me.
I always get: an error occured, can´t send the project to Sorenson.
Has sending a sequence to SS ever worked for anyone? Or working with QT Ref in SS?
I always have to transform to .mov and import that in SS, but that is very time-consuming.
I just need to send the customer a copy of the raw material with burnt-in TC in H264 - what is the fastest way to do this?
"Send to" is something I haven't used successfully in years. It's as if that function isn't set up properly in MC the way it used to be (same with Send to DVD which quit working years ago). I only use QT ref and never have a problem.

Agreed. Plus you have that intermediate file to evauate and use again if needed.

So rather than using Avid's default Send To experiment with a short timeline to find a workflow that works for you with SS. In Squeeze make and name your own H264 preset, (I use the MainConcept H264 codec and there are plenty of presets available online that you can download) Then make and name your own Send to template(s). Your first one will take a little work but after that you could make and have to have several "Send to Sorenson" options (Draft, Approval, YouTube, Delivery etc) available in your Send To menu.
Obviously if you like this then you can setup "Send To" templates for other programs you regularly export to.
Using watch folders to automate the workflow is also a way to go , just remember to use embedded audio with the qt refs , do not create audio mixdowns.

AndrewAction: smyers63: It's as if that function isn't set up properly in MC the way it used to beYou can make your own Send To function and save it as a new Template. Search in MC's help for "Send to template" and then read "Creating a Custom Send To Template for Exporting to Third-Party Applications" I posted a copy of it in this thread a week ago
thx.
But I never got QT Ref to work with SS either. The QT Ref clip/sequence never showed in SS.
In this case it definitely doesnt work, because the material is AMA linked. And as far as I remember all effects have to be rendered, right? So if I put the TC-effect on, I have to render the whole material anyways, right?
Is there a faster way than rendering the whole 6 hours (with TC effect on it) to QT out of MC and then rendering again to H264 in SS (can be bad quality, just for viewing)?
Is there a faster renderer than SS?
Back in the days I just played out the timeline via Mojo (no rendering needed) and recorded with a DVD recorder in real time (not possible now, cause my analog Mojo doesn´t work with MC 8.44).

No one ever said you could do a QT ref from AMA'd material without transcoding the sequence. But, if you import a QT ref into Squeeze, it does work. I've never had any problem whatsoever putting a QT ref into Squeeze. Of course, if you move or delete the media being referenced by the QT ref, it's not going to work and you wouldn't expect it to work. If you were using the Send To Squeeze method without fixing the broken Send To command, that wouldn't be expected to work, either.
To be perfectly clear, I transcode (as has always been required to my knowledge) my sequence which is using AMA material. I then take the new sequence which has been linked to the new transcoded clips and export as a QT ref. I open Squeeze and import the QT ref (the MOV portion is all that's necessary and not the audio portion which will come along for the ride on its own). Then, set Squeeze as desired and let it run. No problems at all.
As Andrew was getting at, if you have MC-compatible MXFs, you don't AMA or import. You'd drop them into MC's MXF folder (MXF\1, for example). Of course, if they're not MC-compatible you'd either AMA or convert them with ClipToolz or some other way to make them compatible.
DNxHD is only part of the project, I have mixed materials (.mov from Canon, .mov from GH4, DNxHD290 from Shogun)
Some of it is DNxHD 50p, some 59.94.
So I could put the DNxHD from Shogun in MXF folder, correct?
But I still have to render the TC-effect, right? Which means I could also export the sequence from AMA - that would take just as long as the other method, right?
So there is nothing faster than transforming the Canon an Panasonic .movs to DNxHD120 and export as QT Ref (or directly export from the AMA link as DNxHD), then import in SS and transform to H264?
Is there something faster or better than Sorenson Squeeze 10 Pro?
Squeeze 10 Pro can add timecode by itself, no need to go through Avid if you haven´t done any edits, a simple one pass h264 profile export would go rather fast to do.
For mixed framerates there are selections in Avid / transcode to either keep the old framerate or convert, as you want your QT ref to contain clips of the same speed you want to select convert if you need to go through Avid .
And MXF DNx 290 isn´t the same as Dnx 120 of course , you need to transcode that one too , again, same as above, if you really need to go through Avid with mixed framerates for sending previews to a producer .

I need a big timecode as a watermark/inprint on the picture, so it cant be copied. Is this possible with Sqeeze 10 Pro?

Yes
You can do it with any version of Squeeze - its a filter. You can make it any size, any font, any position. You can't use source timecode like you can in Avid - that is the only limitation.

Can we go back to the way audio nodes used to be selected? Please? ie if you have audio nodes at the same time on selected tracks; then selecting 1 audio node selects them all at that time. Having to shift select nodes or add an in and out is time consuming and counter productive. At least make it an option.
