Avid 8.5 instant crash.

Just downloaded a trial of MC 8.5.

this sequence instantly crashes MC 8.5

http://djfio.com/my-content/badseq/bad_seq.avb.zip <<------This is a zipped bin with the sequence

No matter with AVX or not, with render-on-the fly or not, offline or not.

MC 8.4.4 easily opens this sequence without any problems.

Please, can somebody download and try to open a bin and the seuence?

Hello DJFio[DB],

Did you create a new Avid user profile when you upgraded? Is it crashing when you open new project?

Regards,

Re: Avid 8.5 instant crash.

upd: found roots of the problem in the aaf composition sent to me from Premiere

avid MC 8.4.4 easily imports (with errors) and then open a sequence. Everything ok.

avid MC 8.5 imports and then when i open (doubleclick) the sequence - insatntly crashes

Re: Avid 8.5 instant crash.

I normally worked with my sequences using MC 8.4 -> 8.4.4

Now this error is in every sequence of my project.

Why avid MC 8.5 can not open it's own sequences?

Re: Avid 8.5 instant crash.

Is there any way to repair/open these broken sequences?

Console command "repair sequences" does not fix anything.

I understand that i can use older version of avid app, but i think that this is a serious bug ( may be new feature :) in MC.

because if there is an error in AAF import - > aplication must ignore AAF error or fix it

but now it  successfully!! imports a AAF sequence  and then can not open and crash.

please help.

What is the Project format for the AAF and bin?
Can test here on a PC with MC 8.5

I opened a new 1080 25p project (named MDV test) on a PC with W7 SP1 and MC 8.5

Extracted and opened your Bin  went to open the sequence and it came up with a structured fail error.
Dragged the AAF into a different new bin, went to open the sequence and had the same failure error

In the bin I notice than none of the offline media clips, mainly ProRes LT media with 4 DNxHD 120 clips, show either a start or end timecode in my bin. they do show duration. The sequence shows start and end TC.   I would guess that if the timeline has clips with no TC in it this will cause the error.
If 8.4.4 works with the AAF can you check if the 8.4.4 bin shows TC with the clips?

Re: Avid 8.5 instant crash.

8.4.4 does not show any TC with the clips (Prores LT) but it works.

OK The clips in the bin here are from the AAF import.
further examination showed two video only clips with exactly the same name  "DJI_0112P8D2ProResFly"   36:24 and 1:15:16 duration  (subclips?)  used duration of 1 sec  and 17 frames respectively

Also MVI_9979   7 minutes 40 approx and MVI_9979 P7 D5 Mark  26 secs approx wondering if the second is a subclip  that has been renamed with your more standard naming convention.

To me either of these may be enough to cause a timeline error when there is no timecode.

Whatever it seems like you have come up with an issue that should be investigated.
Can any one else test this (preferably on a Mac) so it can be escalated. Thanks

Re: Avid 8.5 instant crash.

i have many sequences with clips like these ( without TC ) but everything works fine, even in MC 8.5.

but in this AAF there is something incompatible with 8.5. Maybe an effect or something like this.

I looked at the crash dump - and i think that there is an unsupported motion effect - maybe a speed ramp.

In the future - i can avoid these effects.

but now i have some sequenses which i can not open. and this bothers me.

because i have many finished sequences like that in my archive. and if i will not be able to open these sequences in the future - this will be the main problem.

Re: Avid 8.5 instant crash.

there is a timecode but in other units - >>> see clip info there is a duration and frames count. that's enough for MC. ( i think)
"]i have many finished sequences like that in my archive
Do you only keep AAF's of your finished timelines?

FWIW I keep at minimum the bin with my final cut timeline in it. Usually its each whole Project folder. (758 active project folders here only occupies 5.76GB's.

YES ! I always keep a bin with finished timeline. ( and the project and many other things....)

this bin ( in the first post ) is the finished timeline

and the AAF (in the second post) - is the source "EDL" for that sequence
