No LTC out from Nitris DX during audio punch-in with this version. Reverting to 8.4.1 restores this function. This, after deleting mcstate and site settings and new user settings failed to restore this function.

    Roland Achini:

I have three running projects. Is it safe to upgrade from MA 8.4.4 to 8.5, i.e. can I continue on these projects in 8.5 without problems?

While I would agree that things are better than they used to be in this regard, and that chances are pretty good that you'd be able to upgrade with absolutely zero issues, I can also say that even with recent versions of Avid I have run into issues that make me continue to stand by the idea that you should avoid upgrading mid-project unless there are SPECIFIC reasons that warrant the upgrade.  If the upgrade is reported to fix bugs that are effecting you, or if it adds features that your project specfiically needs, then I'd say it's fine to go ahead.  If the current version does everything you need for your current project, however, my recommendation continues to be to wait for as much of an "in between" moment as you can.  The more major the release (i.e. second point vs point vs full number), the more careful I would be.

Of course, many people have overlapping projects and are therefore never truly "in between" projects, but I would still try to time the upgrade for a moment when you aren't all that deep into any project.  If you're in the home stretch on a project I would absolutely say that it's safest to just wait.

Anyway -- those are just my thoughts on this subject.

Re: Avid MC 8.5 is here...

Am I missing anything here as I have an active support contract and just installed 8.5 but it says no go.

I called Avid support but you just get a detail taker who can do nothing to help.  Very frustrating not getting through to anyone useful and sorting it out there and then.  So editing stops until the phone rings now (and no idea of timescale if it will be 10 mins or 10 hours).  Paid support this :(

Reseller said there can be an 'air-gap' between buying support and Avid logging it properly on all databases.  Sort of puts you off buying support from a reseller if it can introduce issues...

I fixed it - you need to track down a dongle updater file.  Its VERY buried.

Do you mean you download the dongle updater file?

Yes if you hunt around your My Avid Account there is a small hyperlink to 'download dongle updater file'.  You have to get that file and use the Application Manager to blast the dongle.

I guess the dongle will expire annually now so will have to keep that in mind - the fact that you update the support contract doesnt seem to add a year to the dongle paramaters.  Much head scratching!

The way you have phrased this is wrong. Your Dongle is "Perpetual"  From my Dongle:  Dongle Expires: 1/25/2066

So I can keep using it with the latest versions of 5.5.x. 6.x, 6.5.x, 7.x and the latest version of 8 that was released before my "Contract Expires" (Contract Expires: 12/7/2016) right through to the year 2066.

    DIESELE:

The Contract Expires: is updated when you blast the Dongle with the updater (Blasted On: 1/25/2016.)

To me the dongle is my licensing device, but I get the legacy issues.

However I worry more that you will be editing in 2066 Andrew!  Thats too long in dark rooms mate!

All that talk about support for higher resolutions (4K, UHD) for the past year and a half, and you can't use MC on a 4K monitor???  What am I missing here -- that seems really bizarre to me.
