NEED HELP - Glitch Installing Avid Media Composer 8

Hello!  Thank you for any insight you can share....

I've worked in Avid MC on my laptop for years, and I just inherited a very powerful desktop computer that used to have MC 6.5 installed on it in the past.

Today, I successfully did a clean-install of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Service Pack 1 on it in order to load Avid 8.3.1.

I then downloaded the latest free version of Avid Media Composer 8.3.1 and started the installation process.  All went well until it reached the last item on the list: Avid Application Manager 2.2.

The system says: "Avid Media Composer is preparing the InstallShield Wizard to help guide you through this process," and then a window pops up with a lot of technical info (listed below), titled "Windows Installer."  It has only ONE option at the bottom: to hit the "OK" button.  When you do that, nothing else happens!  Hitting "OK" closes that "Windows Installer" window and brings you back to the Media Composer menu where it says "Please choose an application to install..." and there is a red "X" next to Media Composer.

Clicking that Media Composer option to try again opens a dialogue box that says:  "Avid MC requires the following items to be installed on your computer.  Click Install to begin..."  The item listed is Avid Application Manager 2.2.  When I click "Install" it does the same thing again, ending with that "Windows Installer" window where you can only click "OK."   It becomes an endless loop.

Ironically, when I close all of those windows and click on the START button, it shows that the Avid Application Manager 2.2 WAS installed!  I've opened it and tried using it to install MC.  It leads me into that same endless loop again at the same point (listed above).

I have scoured the web trying to find how to get the normal InstallShield Wizard to work and to continue the installation....all to no avail.  I'm just stuck in this loop...

Here is the message that it says inside the "Windows Installer" window:

App Man should be installed first thing, so before Avid.

You seem to have used the wrong installer or uncorrect install procedure

The system says: "Avid Media Composer is preparing the InstallShield Wizard to help guide you through this process,"

add ..  and I can´t remember having seen this either

Re: NEED HELP - Glitch Installing Avid Media Composer 8

Try uninstalling the Avid Application Manager.  (Control Panel\Programs and Features\ select Avid Application Manager and click on Uninstall)

Move the downloaded Avid installer ( Media_Composer_8.3.1_Win.zip ) to the root level of your C:\Drive.

Extract this file  to your C:\drive.

From the resultant Media_Composer_8.3.1_Win folder use the "Install Media Composer.exe" to install.

As Tomas says you should then see the Avid Application Manager install as one of the first parts of the process.

I honestly cannot thank you both enough!!!  It worked!!!  I so appreciate all your help and the time you took to write and help me resolve this issue.  It was getting really frustrating, so thank you for being so kind and helping me out.  It really means a lot to me.

As soon as I moved the .ZIP folder onto my C: drive and started the whole process again, everything worked.

    Have a great day!!
