Hi All,
We've been having some issues with AMAing footage from a Samurai Blade.
Out of 5 Mac Pro MC's we only have one that will successfully AMA a clip without 'choppy' audio.
The machine that will do it is on MC 6.5.4 Quicktime AMA Plugin Version 1.2.2.7125.
Any other machines that are on 6.5.4.5 (QT Plugin 1.2.2.7155) or 6.5.4.1 (QT Plugin 1.2.2.7140) don't work.
The audio drops in and out on playback and will Consolidate and Transcode like it too.
I don't really want to go backwards in my MC versions - can we locate the QT AMA Plugin and replace in the other machines ?
I've tried to find it in the plugins folder in the library, but nothing seems to be it. Nothing in the QT folder either.
The clips playback ok in QT on the desktop.
Any help welcome !
The QuickTime plugin is installed with the MC software, so I wouldn't recommend swapping it out. But if you want to try, the plugins are located in /Library/Application Support/Avid/AVX2_Plug-ins/AMA. Please save the one that came with the system on the desktop before replacing it, in case it screws things up for you.
So, you're also having the skipping issues on transcoded media? What is the format of the QuickTimes themselves? What format are you transcoding to?

Hi Kevin,
The original files are Avid DNXHD145, so i really i shouldn't need to to Transcode them - i tried for a test. Consolidating to our Unity doesn't help. I couldn't see a file that could be the QT AMA plugin in the Apps Support AVX folder. I'll try it though.
I swapped all the AMA plugins from the good machine into another and that hasn't worked.
Couldn't see a specific QT one - it shows up in the Console : AMA_Listplugins
Does it live elsewhere ?
I can confirm that going backwards to MC 6.5.4.0 fixes it - i've reinstalled on another machine.
The Quicktime plugin has gone back to 1.2.2.7125
D'oh...sorry about that. I thought for some reason it was in there but failed to check. It must be buried within the app itself.
Can you post a file to see if the latest versions of the plugin also have this issue or not?
MC 6.5.4 Quicktime AMA Plugin Version 1.2.2.7125 works ok.
MC 6.5.4.5 (QT Plugin 1.2.2.7155) or MC 6.5.4.1 (QT Plugin 1.2.2.7140) don't work.
Incidentally, we have QT 7.6.6 installed on all machines and don't have any issues with QT Ref's and AMA'ing XDCAM material.
Unfortunately i can't go up to MC7+ due to having an old fibre Unity.
Could you check the Audio settings on each machine regarding sample rate conversions on both import and playback to ensure that the problem is being caused by the AMA plugin?
Must think of something clever to go here...
Checked the settings, they're all the same.
Two possible paths here:
1. If someone else can reproduce this I can escalate it to Engineering.
2. The OP can call Avid and open a support ticket on this so that Engineering can be informed once the problem is confirmed.
I've managed to upgrade a laptop we have to 7.0.4, it works ok on that but oddly there's no QT plugin listed at all via the console. So to recap :
MC 6.5.4 (QT Plugin 1.2.2.7125) works ok.
MC 6.5.4.1 (QT Plugin 1.2.2.7140) doesn't work
MC 6.5.4.5 (QT Plugin 1.2.2.7155) doesn't work
MC 7.0.4 (QT Plugin not listed?) works ok.
I will try the other versions of 6.5 at some point to see if they work.
