    BCC8 and MC8.3

    Hi

I've just noticed that all my BCC effects have dissapeared from my effects palet?

I got it bundled with an earlier release of MC, am I now to beloieve I cannot use it with newer versions of MC unless I pay for the Symphony option?

Seems a bit of a con if that is the case that I cannot use the full version that I have and have to pay again for the lite version that is included in the Symphony option?

    or am I missing something?

What version of MC did you upgrade from, and what version of MC did you upgrade to?  If it was MC 5.5 or earlier, that was a 32-bit app, and the BCC plugins were also 32-bit, so they won't work with the newer, 64-bit versions of MC.

However, you say it's BCC8, which is the 64-bit version, so it should work with MC8.

    Re: BCC8 and MC8.3

Just upgraded from 8.2 to 8.3. I have BCC 8.something but only just noticed its not showing in the effects palet, also noticed its icon has dissapeared off my desktop but it is still shown as an installed program.

I will re-install it and see if that resolves the issue.

    Thanks

Yeah, that's weird.  If it was present and working in 8.2, it should still be present and working in 8.3.

    Re: BCC8 and MC8.3

Unless you have a 64-bit version of BCC you lose the effects.  They become unknown effects.  That may not matter if they've already been rendered and you don't need to change them.  As soon as you do anything to unrender them it will become a serious problem.

    Hi

I´ve got this email from Boris

    Hello Jan Erik,

We released BCC AVX 9 to support Avid MC 8.

BCC AVX 8 does not support Avid MC 8.

    Re: BCC8 and MC8.3

OK folks - can we have Avid chime-in on this one?

We were told explicitly that an upgrade to BCC 9 would not be required and, in fact, I tested BCC 8.2 with MC 8.2 and they seemed to be compatible. I have since updated to BCC 9 for other reasons so I cannot test BCC 8.2 with MC 8.3.

I am surprised that Boris is essentially telling MC users that they have to spend an additional $599 when they upgrade their $299/yr for MC 8.

Cost of ownership is really rising - and again, no consideration for the hobbiest and one-man show. What I mean is that if you think of Avid as only for big budget shows then we can all agree that an extra couple of hundred dollars here and there is not huge (particularly if it saves time) but for the hobbiest and one man show, this is quite a bit of cash. So - is Avid going after a broad range of users or are they returning to the days of old where they focus on Hollywood editors?

FYI - Boris didn't release BCC 9 to support MC 8 (that mis-represents the truth, IMO). What they may be saying is that they aren't qualifying BCC 8 with MC 8 (i.e., they are not testing the two together and will not patch BCC 8 if an incompatibility is found). This I can understand - it would be up to Avid, in this case, to ensure that they don't change MC in such a way as to make BCC 8 incompatible...

    Re: BCC8 and MC8.3

The mystery thickens and also may explain why BCC 8 seems to have vanished from my system.

i have tried downloading bcc8.2 from my avid download centre account - all that gets downloaded from the link is a folder with the release notes inside, when I have tried running the installer it takes me to a registration pop up and then installation fails.

i have taken this up with boris and am waiting to hear back from them.

looks to me like something is not as it should be.

I'm running BCC8.2 with MC8.3 and it works fine.  I didn't do any uninstalling, reinstalling, or deactivating of BCC before I upgraded to MC8.3, so if you (or anyone) was on BCC 8.2 prior to upgrading to MC 8.3, you should be fine.

This is a user-to-user forum.  Sometimes Avid people participate, but if you want a direct response from them, your best option is to contact Avid Support.

    Re: BCC8 and MC8.3

Been around here for a very long time, Carl. I don't want anything from Avid but if Boris is misleading Avid's customers in some way, I think it is up to Avid to sort that out with Boris.

As you say, you have BCC 8.2 working just fine with MC 8.3. Maybe the problem exists if you try to install BCC 8.2 fresh on an MC 8.3 machine (or maybe there is no problem and the OP needs to work a bit harder to get the 8.2 installer from Boris).

    Cheers

I know you've been around a while, Steve, which is why I thought it was weird you'd ask for an Avid response, because you know they don't participate regularly here, which means me or one of the other mods would have to first see your post - not a guanrantee when so many people are posting about upgrades - and then send Marianna an email to let her know there's a post she might want to look at.

If you really want Avid to answer you, it seems to me like it'd be easier to just send Marianna a PM on an email directly.

First of all thank you so much snedker for post this public awareness, I have been Avid user for many years with all the respect to all of the mods contributing their time on this forum. Marianna is out of questions, she is truly a backbone for Avid.

I believe we have to hear a statement from Mr. Luis Hernandez on this especially few days left to reach the deadline date to upgrde. We as a Avid users requesting Avid to practice to be more of a transparent on this issue, this will avoid users from trashing their investments on future upgrades.
