I have an Xpress Pro system (4.0.1) on an HP 8000 workstation. Suddenly it did not want to recognise the dongle (dongle has been in for two years..never been moved and USB ports are fine). So I removed the Avid and have reinstalled it several times to no avail. I get the feeling that the tree of installation is incorrect..just does not look the same at all. Have updated the dongle driver and repaired/reinstalled software but it just starts and then quits after a few seconds. I'm running on XP Professional with a Mojo and all is original (legit) Avid stock. I am getting quite frustrated by all this, does any one have any advice in the correct installation procedure. The CDROM seems to tell me everything is OK but it still won't work. And by the way it tells me that I am not registered which I am. Suggestions please as I have a job in hand! I shold add that I have Boris FX and some others installed..should I remove everything connected with Avid? Many thanks in advance.
Hi,
Here's a post from Avid Customer Service on how to handle dongle problems during upgrades or installation:

Many thanks Carl,
I did go through all that before I posted my original query....my problem, after several removals/repairs/re-installs, is that when I go into Avid I get the splash screen for a few seconds and then it dies on me. No messages, no notification just closes. It tells me me that the sytem is there (in add/remove) but just will not open. I have no problem with the dongle now, that is recognised..........the "not registered system" bit is not a problem at the moment, can sort that out later after reading what you pointed me to.....my frustration is that, I think, I have re-installed it all correctly but it still will not open. Any suggestions?..Maybe something lurking in there somewhere? Certainly no viruses or spyware.
I should add that we have had one or two problems here (in rural France) with electricity problems but, as I said before the system has been up and running perfectly for the last couple of years. No dongle removals, the rest of my system is working fine...everything except the Avid...........AAAAArgh.!
I should say that I disable AV and Firewall before re-install.
I wish I could say that "don't Panic" but I am!
Barry.
I strongly suggest that you update your detailed system specifications in your user profile by clicking on your user name at the top of the screen. You may need to register as well before doing this.
This will make it much easier for everyone to help troubleshoot your problem.

Thanks Robert,
I just did but it did not seem to want to know! I'll try again.
FYI. I am running WIN XP Pro with Avid Xpress pro/Mojo on an HP XW8000 workstation all original as supplied.
Barry
hey Barry -
i'm curious what your solution was to this problem...? Seems like i'm having the identical problem with Xpress Pro v.5.8...
thanks
The first thing i would do is get a hold of 4.6 because all before that is SP1 and not SP2. 4.6 is by far the most stable release from the 4.x series.
Un-install all avid related, backup projects and settings (ask if you don't know how) and then get rid of all Avid related stuff in the program files. Uninstall the sentinel drivers as well. Make sure you unplug the dongle and reboot. Then install 4.6 and reboot.. then after boot insert the dongle again. move back projects and settings and hopefully continue to edit.
