Re: Tick Tock ... Tick Tock..... Tick Tock.......

    Tick, tock, indeed...

Don't want to rush into an upgrade, for OS or for MC.
But obviously want to future-proof my system.
So it feels like the annual 'Standard Support' would be best.
Would that allow me to stay dongle-activated, and is it up to me which version I move to next, and when?

    Thanks for any advice!

    Hi Susi,

In your case, the annual "Standard Support" would be the best choice. ($299)
It comes with 1 year of Standard Support and Upgrades.

    Regarding your questions:

-Yes, you can still use your dongle to activate your license. Just redeem your license for a dongle updater file.
-And it is up to you what version you run. The MC8.x dongle can still run the following previous versions:

MC 5.5.4 (and higher point releases),
    MC 6.0.5.1(and higher point releases),
    MC 6.5.4.2(and higher point releases),
    MC 7.0.4(and higher point releases)

Find more info about Using MC8 to activate a previous license here

Also find more general info and FAQ on MC8 here

    Hope this helps,

yes.... Buying the support/Upgrade plan will deposit a new MC 8.x code in your MY Account.  You dont have to use that code or upate your dongle until you are ready too.....  if you stay on the dognle - and I suggest you do - you can update it to MC 8 and use a few versions back with it.

No it isn't. Xpress Pro, Xpress DV and Meridien cannot be upgraded to MC8.

Thanks, Wim and Marianna; reassuring that I can commit financially, without upgrading right now.

I want to say that I've recently upgraded from 6.0 to 8.2 and I feel the additional features are *WELL WORTH* the price.

I feel that upgrading for $299 is kind of a no brainer. Also, Avid deserves a shot for 2015 and our loyalty will help give them that.

Re: Tick Tock ... Tick Tock..... Tick Tock.......

I did the annual "Standard Support" a couple a weeks ago and is great. I already did my monthly support call and happy with it.

$299 basically is like paying $25 montly.

    Thanks Dan and Gabriel....

its easy for me ( Avid ) to explain the monetary aspects of this but it is great when customers comment on the feature set you get.  4K is a coming .......

Re: Tick Tock ... Tick Tock..... Tick Tock.......

That 4K release can't get here soon enough.  I'm working with a ton of 4K footage now and it will be a godsend when I can create 4K proxies in Avid.  Looking forward to testing out the new codecs and 4K options.

I bought the support contract just so I can download the next release the minute it's available.
