Hi
I am trying to set up a way to let our producer watch our edit session live via the internet without spending to much on dedicated lines and hardware. That said a few hundred dollars is ok. Straight off all the software only screen share type of things -Skype, Facetime, Team Viewer drop the frame rate compress the picture badly and make the sound choppy. I have found a decent method but the sound is still a bit unreliable but workable
Our setup so far is as follows - extrernal web cam pointed at the client monitor - usb microphone pointed at a speaker ( I have no audio in on my i Mac) and using skype just do a normal call . The image is solid (looks a bit like a 1970's tv but wide screen) but as the sound gets more complicated it sometimes breaks up and compressors and gates somewhere take over. Sometimes I think it could even be a slight glitch in the internet. Anyway I would love to here what other people are doing for this. Remeber the software only solution seems great but I don't think it can handle DNX 36 1080 23.98 without stuttering and compressing. I found a great app "Webcam setings" which lets you override the auto settings in Skype video and Facetime. I would love to find same to overide sound settings. I have given up on Facetime because when I use in conjunction with Media Composer the volume of the entire system is lowered for some resaon making it unworkable.
Thanks
Gary
