MC 8 rental crash when transcode run in backround

    Hello.

I have 4K AMA link files in my project. Until this point everything work fine.

I want to transcode them in DNX120. When I clic "run in transcode" an error massage appears "Segmentation fault" in thread "MainThread", at address   0x0 and the software crashed.

If I try to transcode these files in a normal way - I mean without "run in backround" -, it does work.

Have someone an idea how to solve this problem?

One clarification: I am running with Media Composer 8.0 rental. Maybe this could be a reason?...

    Félix.

    Hi Felix,

    Félix Sandri:
I am running with Media Composer 8.0 rental. Maybe this could be a reason?

I doubt the license type has anything to do with the error.  Segmentation faults seem to be pretty common.  I'd start with this Knowledge Base article:

If that doesn't help, I'd do a Google search for "media composer segmentation fault" and you'll get a lot of results with suggestions.

I haven't tried 8 so this may not be relevant... What type of drive are you trying to transcode to?  Is it a local drive or network drive?  I know background transcoding to network drives doesn't work in 7.

At the moment the only difference between 8.0 and 7.0 is the licensing, so the drive idea is definitely something to check out.

Re: MC 8 rental crash when transcode run in backround

I am working on an 25To Pegasus2 R8 external disk, connected to my computer via a thunderbolt cable.

    This would be the reason?

I've not tried this extensively... but I've had no problems background transcoding to a Lacie 5big on thunderbolt.  Have you tried using Dynamic Media Folders to see if the same thing happens?

    No, I didn't try. It's a good idea, I'll see what happens.

    Thank you.

Re: MC 8 rental crash when transcode run in backround

Does anyone have evere tried to transcode in backround via a thunderbolt cable?

I'm curious to understand if this could be the reason of the crash.
