    AVCHD and Dolby AC-3

I'm currently helping a student with an important project.  My Avid MC 7.0.3 handles his AVCHD footage just fine, from AMA linking to sound and video editing to export. Up until today.  Using AMA link we cut the sound bites, but were unable to visualize sound on the timeline.  Further investigation revealed that audio format is Dolby AC-3 256 kbs/S, which I have never worked with.

Two questions: What audio file format does this correespond to? (in Audio Project Settings)

Is there any way to display the waveform in the time line? Are there any other problemns to be expected with this audio format?

Thanks so much for your input Smile

Waveforms don't work with AMA-linked AVCHD.  This might be by design, given how processor-intensive AVCHD is.

You could transcode the files - whether both audio and video, or just audio - and you can then get waveforms with your Avid-native media.
