Upgraded PC, it removed Avid MC but my license is attached to my older version so I can't re-download.

    Hi there,

I got an Avid educational license in February and downloaded it onto my 64-bit Windows 7 Pro PC.  My support license that came with that purchase lasts until May 13th, 2014.  (I had forgot what the expiry date was until yesterday.)  A couple weeks ago I upgraded my PC to Windows 8.1, and that process wiped all of my programs.  I have been slowly re-installing all my editing software in the evenings, but when it came time to re-download Avid, I found that my System ID and license are attached to my older Windows 7 version of my PC, so I can't re-download.

My support time period expired, and if I had rememebred when it expired Avid would have been the first thing I tried to reinstall, rather than the last. Is there any way for Avid support to allow me to reattach my system ID and license properly without having to buy a new support ticket?  Or is there somethign I can do on my PC to solve it?

Are you saying you forgot to deactivate Avid before installing the new OS?  If so, call avid support.  Activation issues are free.

As to getting a copy of the software, you can always download the trial version from avid's site.  Once you activate it, it's the "real" thing.

Your system id and license information are accessible to you on your user account online and not tied to any particular machine.

I'll do that, I thought none of my programs would be removed.  Thanks!

    Hi,

As smrpix says, you should contact Avid Support.

    http://www.avid.com/US/support/support-contact

Select Video Editing & Production, then call the number listed for your area.  Help with activation/dongle issues is free, and it's option 2 from the phone menu.

If you don't get anywhere with them, send an email to Marianna Montague (marianna.montague@avid.com).  She's their customer advocate, and can help you.

    ciao,

    Carl
