Hi all,
I know this is fairly new to all of us but I am currently diving in to AS-11 delivery.
Initial problem I have is that Ch5 in the UK specifies Line up to start at 9:59:30:00 and Clock at 9:59:50:00 with Programme start at 10:00:00:00.
The UK DPP HD shim within Avid has line up at 9:58:00:00 and clock at 9:59:30:00 and won't let the export happen unless the start time of the programme is 9:58:00:00. In all other respects the Avid UK DPP shim seems to be correct.
I can output a file using the generic Avid 1080 50i shim which allows me to start the file at 9:59:30:00 as required and then I can use the DPP Metadata application to add the correct information and then try and resave the file using the DPP, but DPP comes up with an error saying the shim name is not supported!
Is there a way of editing the Avid UK DPP shim to reflect the different line up start times?
Or has anyone else come up with a viable workflow for this export.
Cheers
Nick

Quick update:
I've been able to output a file using the Avid UK DPP shim with a start time of 9:58:00:00 and a clock at 9:59:50:00 and then put in the correct clock time (identifier) in the DPP tool. The DPP tool also picks up the correct part times if you set spanned markers for all the parts and validates the whole file nicely and then i have to resave from the DPP Tool which seems to work OK. It would just be nice to get rid of that minute and a half of black at the front, especially since I have to upload the file over the internet to Aspera.
Cheers Nick
Yes I asked soem time back for more info on editingt he shim. Mainly to allow the addition of some data that we'd always have in the there. The shim is an xml but it doesn't have much in it so I suspect a lot of the stuff if "hardwired"
There is <DefaultTimecode>10:00:00:00</DefaultTimecode> But no idea if that helps!
We've found Avids inability to allow you to save and recall the AS-11 metadata to render it far from effective so we just output dummy data and then use the DPP app to add a sidecar with preloaded metadata (which can be preapred in advance)

Thanks Pat. I can output a valid file and then adapt the data in the DPP tool. But as you say it would be nice to just have an Avid shim that is correct.
Have downloaded XML notepad to investigate the Shim files but so far not much luck. The Avid provided DPP shim doesn't show any fields for timecode:
<ShimVersion>1.1</ShimVersion>
<VideoEncoding>AVC-Intra</VideoEncoding>
<VideoFormat>1080i50</VideoFormat>
<AudioEncoding>PCM</AudioEncoding>
<AudioTrackAllocation>EBU R 48: 2a,EBU R 123: 4b,EBU R 123: 4c,EBU R 123: 16c,EBU R 123: 16d,EBU R 123: 16f</AudioTrackAllocation>
<ClosedCaptionPresence>false</ClosedCaptionPresence>
<!--<ClosedCaptionStandard></ClosedCaptionStandard>-->
<TimecodeMode>non-drop-frame</TimecodeMode>
<AdditionalDMSchemes>DM_AS_11_UKDPP</AdditionalDMSchemes>
<ProgramSegmentation>required</ProgramSegmentation>
<IndexStrategyFrame>lead</IndexStrategyFrame>
<EssencePartitionStrategy>single</EssencePartitionStrategy>
<PermittedAFDSet>9,10,14</PermittedAFDSet>
</Shim>
So I'm assuming it defaults to 9:58:00:00 TC
If you fill in some fields and save a profile you get a larger file with more info including:
<parameter id="0d0c0101-0101-1500-060e-2b3401010101">
<valueString>09:58:00:00</valueString>
</parameter>
<parameter id="0d0c0101-0101-1600-060e-2b3401010101">
<valueString>09:59:30:00</valueString>
<parameter silent="true" id="a271fe57-921d-44f4-8f51-497b8d0a1daf">
<valueString>10:00:00:00</valueString>
Near the bottom under Component/track/parameterSet. However, if I edit it and resave in XML notepad there is no change when I load it into Avid.
There has to be a simple answer somewhere!
Another bug I found is if you save a profile with a synopsis field containing more than 127 characters then you are locked out of AS-ll export with a "serious error has occured - restart the app" message. If you delete the profile which is here: C:\Users\Public\Documents\Avid Media Composer\Avid Templates\AMA Export Templates
Then all is good again. Just in case anyone else gets caught!
Hi Pat,
Just read your thread in the "other" forum and that was 6 months ago. They have obviously come quite a way since then. But not quite there yet.
I think the problem is that the 9:59:30:00 start time DPP shim is described by them as "New Mode" as opposed to "legacy mode" which starts at 9:58:00:00. Avid obviously hasn't quite caught up with New Mode!
Avid have just given me a little workaround for this one:
Duplicate the as11-uk-dpp-hd-shim.xml which can be found here: C:\Program Files\Avid\Avid Media Composer\SupportingFiles\AS11_Shim_Templates\UK
Then open with a basic text editor (notepad on PC) and append these lines to the end just before it says </Shim>:
<LineUpStart>09:59:30:00</LineUpStart>
<IdentClockStart>09:59:50:00</IdentClockStart>
Save the file with a new name.
Now when you export AMA from Avid you can load the new shim and your line up and clock times will be set to "New Mode"
Works a treat on my machine. I am still using the DPP tool to make sure everything else is correct, but it seems to work.
