Re: C300 MXF & Media Composer Workflow

Just a thought - have you considered jurt rolling back to MC 6?  If there's nothing in 8.2 that you particularly have to have, why not go with the version that works for you and update later?

Try copying one of the cards to the desktop and linking to it from there. We just received some drives that Avid had difficulties linking media from.

Re: C300 MXF & Media Composer Workflow

Pheral - The new Avid is essential for my work with Red Dragon footage (the ability to read it AMA and, most importantly, the FrameFlex option is absolutely essential for me).

I was originially using a 1TB Seagate USB 3 portable drive and then transferred the footage onto a Seagate 5TB USB 3 drive to see if htat would offer a solution. Unfortunately it did not.

I just tried copying and pasting some clips to my desktop and it still crashed when i AMA's it (though it did scrub fast for a few moments before freezing up).

Do you guys think I should try reinstalling this Avid version? Will it even let me since it's I leased it for a year merely?

Re: C300 MXF & Media Composer Workflow

I have a few hundreds of clips from 5d MkIII linked straight through AMA in the project I'm working on right now. It does play in real-time without much issue, but it is far less stable than, for example, MFX. If you add CC, Title, Surimpose, etc. to it, you need to render. I sometimes get dropped frames and LAG when it's mixed with C300 MXF footage on the same timeline.

It's working fine for me because it is just 5% of my material, but if I would work on a 100% MKIII edit, I would definitely convert the clips to ProRes or DNxHD. Basic import into Avid should also work fine.

Have you installed all the AMA Plugin from Canon website?http://usa.canon.com/nw3s/CanonUSA/DownloadContents/English/0200321102EN.htm

You could also try to "force" an AMA plugin from the dropdown in the AMA LINK window.

Have you tried linking to other AMA file type, like a DNxHD for example?

I upgraded to 8.3 last night and voila: everything is working fine! Maybe I can suggest reinstalling everything again as that may have also solved it for me? So far so good, I'll keep you guys posted.

    Thanks, everyone

That's all well and good. But where can you download the Canon plug-in??

    I can't find it anywhere!

Just to chip in on this, it's probably the fact that you've not created an extra folder layer that is the problem - I also faced this. So you need to create a new folder, and then put the 'contents' folder in this. Not intuitive, but there you go...
