MDV still rules, also on the Mac side

From time to time it shows up different workflows for how to use MDV on Mac, some of them including external applications and customized workflows.

As I have upgraded a drive to Maverick now I wanted to find out if my old workflow was broke but it still works good.

So, from your windows emulator, you need to have one as MDV is a windows application and I use Parallels as emulator, just open up MDV and then manually drag all the individual mxf folders into that upper left field, cmd - a will select all in the browser so you dont need to select all the folders individually, then, if you have more drives for Avid media storage just repeat that workflow until you have it all loaded into that upper left window.

Now just press scan and make your adjustments.

As I wrote in my initial post

From time to time it shows up different workflows for how to use MDV on Mac, some of them including external applications and customized workflows.

Now on 10.9.4 using Parallels 9 and Windows 8.1 and MDV works like a charm with the workflow described in that initial post.

I can't help at a little chuckle when I see Mac users runining windows on their Mac to achieve the functionality they need.

No idea what Parallels costs but Windows 8.1 isn't a cheap solution just to run that one app

The Windows install disc is used on my Pc station Pat so no cost for that one and activating the license was no problem.

Parallels about 100 bucks or something and MDV is free.

I guess and hope that you get a better company income per hour than that.

Pretty sure your not allowed to install another version of Windows 8.1 on another system. It may activate but that doesn't mean your not in breach of the license agreement.

Wiindows OS normally sells as an OEM for installing only on the hardware it's shipped with and is bundled in at a reduced cost. A full retail costs more and even then normally only allows one installation.

    Agreed.

Not startin' another episode of Grown Men Fighting on the Internet, but after you set up Wine, MDV's easy to use. I even made aliases to the EXE's and put them in a stack!

One click and I'm off! Wine launches in the background and everything. And it works in Mavericks. (As of this writing, 10.9.2.)

Confirmed - using MDV with Winebottler works in Yosemite (10.10.2).

Its really frustrating that Media Composers Media Tool doens't include some of the basic functionality needed by users.

To have to run an OS emulator on a MAc to do Avid media management is a sign of just how important an overhaul of Media management is needed.

It really is, Pat. It is amazing that such a versatile program as Avid does not include such a baisc tool for media management as MDV.
