    more options with Spanned Markers

One of the new features of MC 7 are Spannend Markers. Sounds really great but for me it's kind of useless at the moment.
It only works on the timecode track, it doesn't transfer from source side to sequence side, FFWD and REW commands only stops on the beginning of a spanned marker, if you move sth. in the timeline, the spanned marker stays at the same position.

It can be a really powerful tool (I used extended markers in FCP a lot) - but it definitly need some more work for Avid.

This article describes it really good:

+1. Now that we have spanned markers, I'd like them to appear at their full duration -- as an extra option in the Generator/TimeCode Burn-in FX. That tool is all about communicating important added info outside the edit suite.

Seems like a perfect job for markers.

Re: more options with Spanned Markers

Found this thread today and started playing around with Spanned Markers.  Agreed they are not really well implemented yet, almost to the point of not being usable.  If I can't snap to in and out of a spanned marker, it's hard to really use them.  Also having them show up on source and sequence side is really a must.  Additionally, when I toggle source/record monitor for my timeline I can't even see the spanned marker there in source mode.  It's got a ways to go, but they'll get there.  Excited for when that time comes.

In 7.0.3 you can use Alt/Option plus 'Mark Markers' to mark the beginning and end - much better. No overlapping markers though, as already pointed out.

Re: more options with Spanned Markers

In addition to overlapping markers, I'd like to be able to select a group of clips in a bin and execute a "make subclips from spanned markers" command.  I'd use it to pull individual takes from a long scene where the directors keeps resetting without shutting off the camera.

Re: more options with Spanned Markers

I can see a major issue with allowing spanned markers to be on tracks other than the timecode track.

How do you manage them if thety span clips? what happens if you drag the middel clip of a spanned section to the end of the time line? The span is now broken.

The only way I could see it working is for the In point of a span and the outpoint of a span to be locked to the clip they are created on. If you break the span then MC would have to re-calculate the new span area.

    Tricky. But useful.

Re: more options with Spanned Markers

I should have asked this a long time ago, but I wonder if there's no practical way to move spanned markers ?

Typical scenario: you extract a portion of the timeline (all tracks) and all subsequent spanned markers are no longer at the correct place. How to you easily work around this (shift all subsequent spanned markers forward) ?

Re: more options with Spanned Markers

I assume you're talking about sequence markers, not source markers.  As far as I know, there isn't a great way to do it.
