    Angry [:@] Avid free DV doesn't work at all

    I installed AVID Free DV, I keyed the 2 numbers in, I rebooted
    At start up, I get a large white window that says "unregistered product", and a small dialog box says: ADM_DSOUND_MIXER_OPEN_ERROR

    The 2 keyed in numbers look like this:  (Serial number) AvidFreeDV-AA05 and (Authorization code) XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
    Downloaded file name is: AvidFreeDV_1.6.1.zip

    I have:
    Realtek ALC 882
    Nvidia ge force 6600
    DirectX 9.0 C
    my system is WIN XP SP2 CPU 2 x 2.8Ghz RAM 1Go HDD 250Go

    I installed, reinstalled and reinstalled....... it happens the same thing all the time. This is discouraging for someone interested!

    Let's see it an other way: Is my system OK to get AvidFreeDv at work? if not, I'll aim towards an other application (it works perfectly well with Adobe Premiere Elements 2)

    Hey there Gringo Jack, I am in the same boat I believe. Although I seem to have got the application up and running it does not seem to capture. One thing I did find out was that one has to unplug any webcams and microphones you have connected, even if they are not running. I have to say that these glitches are also discouraging me from pursuing this too far.

    I discourage! Something must go wrong in that stuff. Perhaps the downloaded version is not OK for the serial numbers notified. Someone from AVID should tell us what to do in that case. Did I  do anything wrong way? Is my system not good enough? Am I too stupid to play with that piece of software? Did I forget to read one page or a paragraph(!)?

    Hi guys,

    Avid is very specific about what components will work with their software.  Take a look at the system requirements for Free DV and see how your systems compare:

    http://www.avid.com/freedv/sysRequire.asp

    While you're there, click on the requirements for Xpress DV, as they're very similar.

    Just letting you know  the problem still exists  . I just downloaded AVID free DV on 03/19/06 and it says I am not registered  and get the same ADM_DSOUND_MIXER_OPEN_ERROR message .
     The program just closes with no hint of how to correct problem .

    I could not make AvidFreeDV work with my on-board RealTek audio system.  I installed a Soundblaster Audigy card, and AvidFreeDV has worked flawlessly ever since.  Your error message looks very similar to what I was getting.  Maybe your present sound system is incompatible?

     I had the same problem .      ( ERROR )  ADM_DSOUND_MIXER_OPEN_ERROR  
             I found an OLDER Sound Blaster Live  audio card  in my no longer used pile . I found the drivers for XP at the Creative Lab website . Installed the card and drivers only .
             Clicked on AVID  and it opened up properly .
      My onboard sound is Realtec also and it on an ASUS P5WD2 -E  Premium  Motherboard . It works great  but not compatible with AVID free DV .   
             If  I want to  use on board sound for surround sound system , I just on boot up reenable it  . Then if going to use Avid I disable on board sound on boot up .   Hope this helped .

    Realtek audio cards will not work with any avid product. Unfortunately there is no other remedy other than upgrading audio hardware to a compatible one i.e. creative labs
