Hello all: I just received a drive with 15 huge MXF files. The footage was shot with a Sony F800 camera. The production firm handling the project cannot be reached, so I am reaching here.
The 15 files range in size from ~ 6G to 19G in size. I'm using MC 6.01 on a PC. What do I need to do in order to import this footage? I've done some investigation online, but it hasn't provided me with the confidence to move forward. My primary workflow is with Panasonic P2 files and I've not worked with AMA at all.
Suggestions?Many thanks, Craig
F800 is XDCamHD, which Avid supports. Are the files contained in the XDCamHD folder structure? Or, are they just MXF files by themselves?
AMA with XDCam would work essentially the same as AMA with P2. Make sure you have downloaded and installed the XDCam AMA plugin.
With XDCamHD, I'm not sure if the XDCamHD folder structure is required for import or AMA. If not, just import or AMA as needed. If so, you might be able to re-create the XDCamHD folder structure using the Sony Content Browser software.
re-creating the XDCamHD folder structure using the Sony Content Browser software is a whole lot easier so better for you to import AMA instead if you can. Importing huge files can really restrict the downloading process and if you're always doing a lot of these footage and you're now using AMA then that Sony software would certainly easy up everything for you once you set it up.
Thanks very much for the suggestions. I finally figured out that by changing from P2 to AMA, I could create an AMA Volume and import the files. They all imported perfectly after installing the XDCam plugin. All is well now and the edit will begin shortly.
