Preserve metadata from music when importing to Avid

Hello, I have a music library I want to import into Avid (Symphony) This has a lot of meta data such as artist, album, year etc that I want to preserve, and be searchable in Avid. Is this possible?

When I do a normal import of the songs, I only end up with the file name, and no other information.

Only if the metadata lives in a BWF. Not AIF, nor MP3 metadata comes along. Pity.

    Maybe worth looking at this:

    http://www.theaudioarchive.com/TAA_Resources_Metadata.htm

Basically converting  the MP3 files to BWavs with the Metadata.

You should then be able to import those and have that info in MC...... In theory

You can use MetaCheater to create an ALE and batch import the MP3 files into MC. This can add the name of the MP3 files to a number of columns and might be easier to populate.

MP3 Book Helper can export the MP3 tags as a text file. It should be possible to format this for an ALE.

Re: Preserve metadata from music when importing to Avid

Hello, I found a program that would let me convert to BFW now.

I tried importing to Symphony both using regular import and AMA linking, and i get the same result as when using the mp3 file.

The metadata is still in the file when viewing the properties window in Windows or Mac.

How would Avid display the information in the bin? - Would the artist column populate with the data automatically ?

Don't AMA sound. It's not intended for that.

Metadata from the BEXT chunk of a BWF imports into MC/SY. Metadata in the iXML chunk will not, though.

    You might also try this:

A little text editing of the header from Tape to Source File or something similar should allow for a merge to happen with the additional metadata.

    Haven't tried this myself.

    excellent!

That worked great, all the metadata is preserved when I import. Thanks for the tip.

The program was $30, but well worth it. Saved me days of work.
