Audio has attempted to overrun its buffers error workaround

I'm posting this to help anyone who, like me, has been plauged by the "audio has attempted to overrun its buffers" error while trying to capture from an HDV tape into an HDV 1080i 1440 x 1080 project. My system has no external fw drives or external hardware, (Matrox etc) attached and the deck is a Sony HVR-M25U attached by firewire, the computer is an iMac.

So I open a new HDV project with the deck switched off. Switch deck on and configure the deck through Add Deck and choose the Sony M25. Attempt a first capture-on-the-fly and the capture crashes out usually after 53 secs with the message "audio has attempted to overrun its buffers". Every attempt after this results in the same error unless I'm capturing less than 52 secs.

The workaround now involves switching to a DV project. Save your HDV project and close it. At this point change the settings on the deck to DV and switch the deck off. Open a DV project, (in my tests I've always had a previously saved DV project). Once the project has opened, switch on the deck. Go to deck configuration, delete the Sony M25 setting and then autoconfigure. This will result in an Generic DV deck setting, apply this setting. You'll need a spare DV tape at this point. Capture around 1 minute of media to ensure you don't have the above error. Save the project and close the project.

Change the deck setting to HDV, switch off the deck. Open the previous HDV project and then switch the deck back on. Go to deck configuration and once again select Add deck and select the Sony M25. Apply this setting. Open capture and capture without any errors, even batch capturing seems relatively solid.

I know this may seem time consuming and complex but it has worked for me everytime and once the "audio has attempted to overrun its buffers" bug has appeared, for me, I can find no other assured way of getting past it to be able to capture. I welcome anyone's thoughts regarding how this proceedure may be solving the problem and perhaps we can arrive at a more elegant workaround. Until Avid fixes the software this is all I've got to get past this bug.
