    volume changes when switching application

My audio volume changes when I go out of media composer, it usually gets lower when switching application but sometimes it's the other way around. It's really annoying if I'm listening to music while editing, becuase the volume changes quite dramatically.

How can an I turn off this feature? Or is it even a feature, is something wrong?

It's happening because when you launch MC it takes over your sound card.  There's no setting or anything like that.  I have a 4 channel mixer where my Avid audio (from MXO2 Mini) is on ch 1 & 2, and the Mac sounds are coming in on the Tape In.  This way I have discreet control over the sounds.
