Hi there
Just installed MC 6.0.3 hoping that the issue I have been having of avid mc 6 running to slow to use with the black magic Decklink HD Extreme 3D card was gone.
Sadly it's still the same.
When in trim mode it still takes about 2 seconds to catch up on each trim I make.
And in color correction mode, moving around the timeline just stutters and pauses!
When turning hardware(blackmagic card) off with new hardware fuction on off button, the software runs perfectly.
Can anyone tell me if this will ever work smoothly or should I just go back to avid 5.5.3 and reinstall my matrox mini?
Running Lion 10.7.4
Blackmagic Desktop 9.5.3
Decklink HD Extreme 3D
With a quadr0 4000 gfx card.
Cheers
yup, i think trimming actually got slower in this release with Black Magic drivers 9.5.3. The newest 9.5.1 drivers are useless at the rate things have been going, not holding my breath for a quick fix.
Its seems like everytime avid updates, black magic has to tweak and fix and vice versa, but it doesnt seem like there working together on it.
this really is a let down. how can blackmagic and avid advertise these products working together when the cleary don't.
what makes it even worse is that ive tested the Blackmagic drivers in just about every supported NLE and they all work as adverstised. FCP 7, PPro 5.5 and 6, Davinci, and even yes, the highly unprofessional 299.00 FCP X..they all work great, and the BM drivers dont limit there functionality, only add to it. Makes me think its not Black Magic, who are pretty on top of there drivers and update amost every 2 weeks.
Even worse, its not specific to Blackmagic at all. Matrox and even AJA users are reporting nothing but headaches, In fact BM's probably works the best of the 3.
When you announce something like OPEN /IO as a flagship feature, and heavily market it then it better work, especially now what 10 months and 3 point releases later, especually as its like a really basic feature of an NLE.
Would really love some clarification as to what prioority this is in getting a fix.
Anyone from avid reading this thread wish to pitch in please?
Bueller ?
bump.
If avid won't fill us in.... anybody else out there having the same issue or have a fix?
yeah, definitely have the same issues, but I find the combination of 6.0.3 and desktop video 9.5.3 to be at least workable. Far from perfect, but much better than the nightmare I was having with the Matrox MXO2 mini. the whole thing is a real bummer and sort of embarrassing for Avid, given the Open I/O fanfare, for sure. Hopefully they will eventually get it back to where it was in 5.5.3...
Honestly, the performance of the latest BMD driver is more or less the same than the latest beta Matrox driver (3.02.0002). Workable but not if you spend hours a day trimming shots...
Is this an isolated MacPro (or 6-core) issue or not, that's the million dollar question...
definately not specific to the Mac Pro 6 core .
I have the same performance on
1. An i7 top of the line imac - mid 2011 with Intensity Extreme on 10.7.4 and MC 6.0.1.1 and 6.0.3
2. An Mac Pro 2.1 8 core with Decklink Extreme HD 2 and Snow Leopard with 6.0.1.1..this is a work machine so i havent gone to lion yet or tried the 6.0.3 update.
just to confirm its probasbly an avid issue, both setups perform great with FCP 7, FCP X, PPRO 5.5, 6, AE 5.5, 6 and DAvinci Reslove.
Why is Media Composer getting slower with each upgrade? I thought 64bit would be an improvement, but each time i try a new upgrade, i have to downgrade to 5.5 again because of the poor performance with matrox mxo2. what's the reason? I'm looking forward for the next update.

Gosh, by now, I was hoping I could upgrade my matrox mxo2 mini to a BMD board.
That's a real pity, after such long time...
I have to say, I'm seeing pretty good performance on my setup, with Intensity Pro, driver 9.5.3, and MC 6.0.3. Yes trimming is a little slow when the client monitor is enabled, but it's much much better than my Matrox experience.
The BMD 9.6 drivers have audio scrubbing problems, so I'm sticking with 9.5.3 for now, and things are pretty good!
When trimming is slower than it should be, IMHO you can't talk about good performance. I edit on Avid because trimming is so quick and powerful. So I feel crippled with 6.0 and a Matrox or BMD. Silly thing is, it used to work really well which is quite frustrating. I hope it will be solved with 6.5 which of course will be free since 6.0 is gathering dust for so many of us...
