Exporting to DVCPRO HD via AVID??? Heeeeelp

    Greetings,

I have to deliver several projects that are on my computer (they were all shot with a DSLR) and editied at 1080/59.96 DNXHD115.  The client however wishes to have DVCPRO HD 1080/59.96Quicktime files delivered on a hard drive.  I submitted the DNXHD115 files in the past and were told that they were NOT DVCPRO HD.  How do i export to DVCPRO HD as a Quictime option?  AVID only gives me the choice of DVCPRO NTSC?  I know DVCPRO HD is about 10bit and equals a gig a minute.  They seem similar.  What am i doing wrong?  :(

    confused

What version of Media Composer are you using to export the QTs?

AFAIK QT doesn't support DVCPro HD on windows systems. I think you need something like this:

What we have done in the past to get DVCProHD into a Quicktime wrapper from AVID is to transcode the media in AVID to the DVCProHD flavor you need and export Same as Source.

Select the Avid DV100 codec. This codec is DVCProHD compliant.

Hmmm the problem is the DV100 functions takes forever to export and I am receiving errors upon export error - 106.  I have 12 60 minute projects that need to be delivered to DVCPRO HD.  I even need to change the frame rate from 1080/24p native to 1080/60i.  Trying to do this in the quickest and most effienct ways.  Has anyone had any luck with the Raylight EncoderPro that was recommended?

If I were you I'd export a DNxHD codec at same frame rate as your project and then send it out to frame rate converted at  post houses. This will give you accurate convertion.

Try transcoding all your footage to DVCpro HD (or doing a mixdown to that resolution), Then making a Same as Source QT.

I just tried it and it make a QT that was DVCpro HD.

(EDIT: oops, just noticed that Ben Wilson mentioned this method earlier.  Have you tried it? It should work)

Try DVCpro 100.  It's the same thing.

    As far as I'm aware, DVCpro HD/DVCpro 100 are 8-bit 4:2:2 codecs, not 10-bit.

    Hmm,

Ugh, yeah the problem is i own a PC etc.  A Mac would give me that option etc.  I may have to go to someonne that has a AVID mac system etc.  But i still have the same problem with the frame rate conversion etc.  Also it sound GREAT regarding the DV100 conversion, the problem is that i am unable to export the footage (hour long programs) in a timely matter.  AVID also does NOT give me the option to Transcode or mixdown to a DV100 format with the software that i have :(

Export a quicktime reference file for your original sequence.  Create a 1080i 59.94 project and set your import resolution to DVCProHD.  Import the QT Reference file.  Should create DVCProHD media in the format required.  Then you can export a Same As Source Quicktime movie.

Great idea, buuut it AVID only gives me the DVCPro HD option import function in 720/24p Native not in the 1080 projects.  Ugh again, i edit on a PC which appears to be the problem.
