Video on Youtube appears too crushed and saturated

    hi guys,

weird problem: a video uploaded to youtube looks very different from the one I actually uploaded. Here is the workflow:

    1080 25 project

export to DNXHD36 1080p/25 Color levels: RGB and standard bitrate

Then I export that video in MPEGstreamclip with these settings:

    Quicktime h.264

    100% quality

    5000kbps data rate

    Unscaled

    no multipass

    Deinterlace Video

check the picture to see the difference: left is in MC, bottom is final exported version ready for upload and right is the actual uploaded image.

MC and streamclip look different, but not much. The difference with Youtube is unbelievable!

    Any ideas?

    comparison

Is your editing screen reasonably well color balanced?

When editing color, did you use the vector scope to ensure you are in range, and did you edit to 16/235 or 0/255

I have found that a good color edit, on a color balanced screen, and processed in Sorenson, will hold its color reasonably well after processing on You Tube.

i edited in 0/255 with vector scope keeping it in range...

but how can the exported video differ so much from the uploaded one? what does Youtube change...

If you edit in 0-255 and then preserve RGB, what happens to the image between 0-16 and 235-255. Is that cliped when preserved as RGB

This could be the colour overlay your video card uses to interpet colour, before and after You Tube.

Youtube and/or QT cause all kinds of gamma shifts.

My experience with MPEG Stremclip is that you need to export your QT out of Avid in 709, not RGB.

709 instead of RGB results in the same problem.

ill start from the beginning, exporting the raw footage without color correction and see where it goes wrong...

but nobody has the same issues?
