Hi
I wonder if anyone knows if this is possible-
For example the other day i had a large number of text clips, involving independent moves, I put all these into a submaster onto V2, and below on V1 was my background clip.
For a version for another channel, specs made me slightly out of text safe, so wanted to apply a simple resize onto the subgroup which was fine (using alt-drag) but the resize also affected the backround layer too. Is there a way of affecting just whats in the subgroup and leaving the background layer untouched?
Thanks in advance
Promote a title clip in the sub-master to 3D and use the scaling parameter to reduce the size. Control drag (or Alt drag, can't remember and not at my Avid right now) the title clip icon from the effect editor to a bin to save the effect template without the source, then re-apply that template to all remaining title clips in the sub-master.

Thank you for the tip - i didn't know you could do that.
But won't that remove any other positioning i might have used on the other text clips?
I think it would be great if you could apply an effect to a submaster clip while preserving any layers beneath it.
But i shall try using your method in the meantime, thanks!
what if the elements in the frame are in diferent sizes? and i need to resize all of them together, but without the background?

Please post a screen grab of the relevant section of your timeline so we can see what you've done so far. Click the options tab at the top of the Forum reply field, then click "add/update", navigate to your image file, save and post. You can do this in the edit mode, you don't need to create a new reply. A jpg, png, or tiff will work fine.
i'm working on a commercial with a packshot built from four tga files with an alpha channel. i have them in four layers over a layer of a background. after i position all the elements (each one in a different size and position) I need to resize all of them together but without affecting the background. I cant post a screen grab of my time line because i'm not on that machine now.
if ther is a easy way to do that i'll be greatfull.
thank you
Sharon
Any fix to this issue, I am having the same problem. I would like to think of the collapse (submaster) effect as if it were a group or container which it is, but it doesnt allow you to manipulate the grouped items without affecting the background.

It's a matter of finding a workflow for what you're trying to do. If you can post a screen shot showing us what you're trying to accomplish, we can suggest ways to do it.

Assuming you have the four tga clips directly stacked one on top of the other, mark those clips on V2 through V5 and use the collapse function to create a single layer submaster which will be placed on V2. Then, ALT drag (CMD drag on a Mac) a resize effect on top of the submaster layer and see if that works.
I'm not in frot of anavid rght now but I'm pretty sureI've tried this ad it stll affects v1

This is what I need too.

Yes, done.

Done. When resizing/positioning the underlying video-track resizes too.
I also tried the Picture-in-picture, the AvidFX and Lumakey. They all affect the underlying video track.
I'm a bit stuck here. Anybody?
It cannot be done it is all oversight.
Bill,
If I understand what you are trying to achieve correctly - I could do it easily in Avid FX.
I do not know how well you know AvidFX.If you only have a little experience with it, the workflow to do this may not be apparent at first.
I don't think I have time tonight, but tomorrow morning (Japanese time) I will make a short tutorial for you on how I would do this.
Regards,Douglas
PS. If you get a explanation from some other source before I get round to this - I will probably not do the tutorial

Do you mind sending me a copy of a couple of the elements you want to be resized together?
It is better to test with some actual source material from you.
I am off to my futon now.....
PS. Send them to:douglas@gaijin-eyes.com
First of all, Bill and Gucci
Is this something like what you are trying to do?

If it is please contact me off forum at douglas@gaijin-eyes.com
I do not have enough time today to make atutorial on this.
But I can do an online walk through for you, if you are interested.
Also note that I have used EPS graphics and a Title in the resize elements. I do not have any TGA files to test with. However, as you want to resize, I would suggest EPS as being a better format for resizing without "jaggies" showing up.
It's up to you now . . . Feel free to contact me . . . or ignore me
PS. If it was not what you are looking for - the "ignore me" option is best
