Arri AMA Plugin Causing an ACCESS_VIOLATION Exception

I have recently installed the Arri AMA Plugin for MC6 Windows. The name of the file is setup_ALEXA_AMA_MC6.msi.

After doing this, I get an "ACCESS_VIOLATION excepting" error message whenever I AMA link to any .MOV file. After clicking "OK" the .MOV proceeds to link properly, AFAICT. But this is very annoying, esp. when linking to multiple files.

When I uninstall the Arri Plugin, the error message no longer happens. This clearly makes me think that the problem is being caused by the Arri Plugin. Also, the Error Log's Exception Report reads as follows:

    ________ Exception Report ________________________

Re: Arri AMA Plugin Causing an ACCESS_VIOLATION Exception

Just a shot in the dark, but with win7 I sometimes get problems (with other applications) when not installing or running the programs with administrator rights or don´t have ownership of all folders.

And did you tried downloading it again, maybe corrupt setup file itself?

    Hi Kristina,

Thanks for the ideas. However I am using the Administrator account and permissioned the media drive to full access for everyone.

Also, uninstalling the Arri the plugin makes the problem go away. And the Error Report mentions "ARRI" in it, even though none of the .MOV files I linked to is from an Alexa.

I uninstalled, downloaded again and reinstalled. Same problem.

    But thanks for the suggestions!

P.S. If you get a chance to try this yourself, that would be great. The download is VERY quick. If we can get confirmation on this by other users it helps the bug reporting process. Wink

When is an administrator not an administrator?  When the OS is Windows 7!

BMF, if you logged in as a user with administrator privileges, you may not have done what you thought you did.  Try reinstalling by right clicking on the installer and selecting "Run as Administrator" from the drop down menu.  In Windows 7 that administrator has full system control, unlike a user with administrator privileges.

Wink like that sentence and yes, that is exactly my expereince with right click on installer "run as administrator"

I could try the arri-plugin next week, but as I´m still on MC5.5.3 and WinXP, I´m not sure if my information will be usefull?!

Re: Arri AMA Plugin Causing an ACCESS_VIOLATION Exception

Thanks for the help guys and girls. The Alexa installer is an .msi file, not an .exe. So right click does not have a Run as Administrator choice. I tried a commandline instruction to run the .msi as an administrator, but the installer asks for a server location. Very odd and I don't want to mess with it.

But anyway, I am pretty sure that I am THE Administrator and not a user with Administrator privileges. I really think this is an issue with the Arri plugin. As I've not had this issue with any other AMA plugins installed on the machine.

I have an idea which may work.  I can't currently test it because I'm at home and only have Linux available, but you might like to try this.

Let's assume that your installer is called AlexaAMA.msi.  Open Notepad and type AlexaAMA.msi followed by a carriage return.  Save it as install.bat to the same directory as your msi file, then right click that and run it as administrator.  See if that helps.

If it bombs out with a syntax error you may have to type exec AlexaAMA.msi instead.

As I said, I can't currently check this.  Given that you seem to have done all the right things anyway, this may not help either.

Re: Arri AMA Plugin Causing an ACCESS_VIOLATION Exception

Thanks for all the time on this. I've tried using the Windows created "Administrator" account, and still the same behavior. I'm pretty confident that this is a bug. Sad

    P.S.

However, you and Kristina's suggestions got me to thinking about another issue w/ MC6 concerning "Enabling Video Editing Mode" in the Nvidia Control Panel.

    http://community.avid.com/forums/t/107170.aspx?PageIndex=3

I tried loging on as Administrator and low and behold, I was able to activate "Enable Video Editing Mode." So THANKS MUCH. Wink

Re: Arri AMA Plugin Causing an ACCESS_VIOLATION Exception

Arri is working on this and thee is a workaround posted.  Here is is again for this thread.....

Quick work around: If, in the dialog box, you select the "Quicktime" AMA plugin instead of "All AMA Plugins", you can successfully import the quicktime file.
