Hi,I have been searching the hole wide web for an answer to my qusetion, but with very mixed info. And I am very much new to this forum-thing, so I apologize beforehand if I post this in the wrong place or something like that :)
We are about to color correct a drama series, it was shot with Arri Alexa (prores 4444), edited in Avid 5.The files in Avid are DNxHD 36, so far my co-worker has tried to export an EDL from Avid to then import to Resolve. He gets it to work but has to manually look for each file for it to connect with Resolve. Does a nice soul out there know the best way to get it to work?So here's my wonders:What is the best format to send to DaVinci?(Have read ex. DNxHD 175, or relink it back to Prores 422 or 4444)Is EDL really the best way, or does an AAF or ALE work better?(Saw that EDL is an older way for tape based material and doesn't always work so well with digital files..)Can you relink the DNxHD back to the AMA files and send it that way? The thing is I was asked to try and find an answer for this, but have never worked in DaVinci before and don't have a chance to play around myself. So I feel I'm searching in the dark a bit, I know what I'm asking about but not how it works in practice.Anyone fancy explaining to me how this works? :)Any help would be much welcomed :)Y.S // Anja
If you can AMA the sequence back to look at the native ProRes Media, then transcode that sequence to something like DNxHD 175 then you should be able to use a Linked AAF file to send the whole sequence to Resolve.
However it will be 4:2:2 file that are being sent to Resolve then. It might be possible to get an EDL to automatically link to the ProRes 444 files if you can get the source naming correct, but I don't have the necessary files to test the theory and so far I've only used Resolve with AAF files from Avid.
The Resolve manual (available from Blackmagic - http://www.blackmagic-design.com/support/) is very detailed and has a lot of information on conforming sequences (Chapter 8). It should be entirely possible to load the source clips into the Media Pool first then you use EDL to conform those loaded clips.
