    Mastering Issue out of Avid

    Hi Everyone,

I am mastering a TV show for broadcast. I am using Avid MC 5.5.2 on a HP Z800 with a Avid Nitrus. I am mastering to HDCam tape using a HDW-1800. My original Content was shot in 23.98 FPS and then for output to tape I am opening up the 23.98 timeline in a 29.97 project and the avid converts it. Now I have noticed that the output from the 29.97 timeline that was originaly 23.98 looks like garbage and so I found that you can open the motion tool and change some of how the 2:3 pulldown happens and it looks better but It still does not look as good as the DVD's of the show that I have made!!! Some thing is seriously wrong with this I am giving Avid the benifet of the dout and saying that I must not be doing this incorrectly because there is no way a professional piece of software like avid can't even put out a signal better than a dvd.

Please help I am sure that I am just doing something wrong like just not using the proper workflow. what is the professional standard workflow for this!!!

    Please Help!!!

I haven't worked in 23.98 to 29.97 for a while, but couldn't you change the Video Output setting to crossconvert to 29.97 while still in the 23.98 project? That way the hardware is doing the work, and not your CPU.

    Just a thought.

Well the problem is that we are also doing the Closed Captioning which require that the timeline be 29.97 so that the caption file can be layed into the timeline and go to tape.
