QUESTION 1

I am using two tracks, of video, in Premiere I could unlink audio and video and bring in the clip (video only) to a timeline. Is it possible to do this in MC? I have tried with the audio tracks turned off, but it does not work.

Can someone put me right on this, I have read the manual and searched it several times but can't come up with a solution.

QUESION 2 - Filler

I have followed the manual and watched Douglas's tutorial on filler and tried to put 2 seconds of filler between two clips on track 1 of the timeline. Each time I do this, it places the filler within clip a and not between clip a & b what am I doing wrong?

I have an Asus motherboard with 4 x 2.66gh quad intel processor, Nvidia graphics card, windows xp pro sp3 with 4gb ram

As the project has grown the resposivness of opening and saving bins has become very slow. Also if I switch to desktop and then back into app, its spinning beach ball for 5 seconds or so.

Did 3.5.1 contain any specific updates for slow bin/project access? Can't see anything in the readme, maybe it was a behind the scenes change?

The project can't really be broken up at this stage, so its not a question of doing that. I've had much larger projects on previous (pre 3.5) versions and not had anywhere near this level of slow down.

Timeline and general usage is not really affected, just bin/project access times. Its pretty much the same accross 4 unity connected MC 3.5.0 Mac systems.

However, working in MC 4.x.x, it seems that the Archive/Restore capability has been taken away completely, even in cases that it has worked before, due to software bugs.

Essentially, in a standard definition, tape-based session, media was sent to tape via "Archive to Videotape...". However, when we tried to "Restore from Videotape...", it immediately gives us an error:

"Exception: No compressed data format found for specified VCID and video format."

So, with no way to restore the otherwise sucessfully archived material, we have to digitize the material in as a clip and manually insert (via eye-match) every... single... shot...

Does anybody have an idea why this is happening or how to get "Restore from Videotape..." to work correctly? This has happened on both a Media Composer 4.0.3, as well as a Nitris 4.0.2.

Thanks for inviting me to the forums. I've got a question that I've been trying to solve all day, but alas, I give up. I can't figure it out. Simply put, how can I ensure that when I import quicktime files into avid that I maintain the same color quality?

It seems when I import anything into final cut pro, it always imports to full quality just like the original quicktime file. When I import into Avid though, either I loose image quality but keep original color, or I keep image quality but loose color quality (I.E. the image looks bleak and pale).

Can you guys help me with this? It is a 29.97 NTSC file I'm trying to import on MC 3.5. Any help will be very appreciated.

If I start a project at 720p/23.976 and then switch the 23.976NTSC to do my color correction and then switch back to 720p/23.976, my color corrections seem to go away. The icons still show on the clips on the timeline, but I have to go into color correction mode for each clip and deactivate and then reactivate the corrections for them to be active. The only reason I have to use this workflow is because I am using a mini-DV camera as a firewire deck to send the signal to my broadcast monitor which is only SD. Is it possible to streamline this workflow at all?

I'm sure this is something quite simple but i can't seem to manage it myself. The problem I have is my desktop, good spec and all, has the neccesary equipment to capture footage, but for some reason is throwing up a whole heap of problems running Avid. My laptop, which is an inferior system but seems to work happily. However, i cannot capture as it doesnt have the required input (USB only, no firewire). I have a project i urgently need to work on so my question is how can I capture on the one system and transfer to my laptop ready to work with. I appear to be able to transfer footage and even entire bins but when I open up on my laptop they are offline again. Help!

I am working on a HD project shooting HDCAM. We are thinking of shooting 1080p 23.976 but the broadcaster wants us to deliver a final output with the following specifications:

16x9 aspect ratio, a frame rate of 29.97Hz and a resolution of 1080 x 1920 interlaced (1080i)

Is this possible, if so how is it done??

I have been searching for info pertaining to pull downs within avid.

Thanks for your help with this!! Any suggestions or information are welcome!!

Previously Onlined Footage showing as Offline

I have been editing a peice for the past couple of weeks and while loading in the project this morning, I noticed that some of my footage was showing 'offline'. These were imported P2 files. As I said before, they were working perfectly fine before today.

After doing a bunch of things that I thought would work, I am now out of ideas. I have gotten the selected files to 'capture media' in regards to the audio, but I am still unable to re-capture the video. No idea why.

My tired, weary eyes cannot search any more. I apalogize if I missed it somewhere.

My problem is that Avid DVD by Sonic will not let me save new projects. I am untterly confused. I have uninstalled the program and re-installed it, rebooted and tried other trick but it has all been to no avail.

So, finally I am posting it here in the hopes that someone has heard of a similar problem and hopefully it is simple.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm working on a project that's going to be digitized from HD Cam 1080 30i and then transcoded to DV50 30i. The DV50 transcodes will be sent off to be offlined. The offlined sequence will then return to us for finishing. Besides the insane workflow, I have one basic question. If I retain all the original HD Cam footage on our drives, when I receive the transcoded offline sequence, will I be able to relink the HD Cam footage to the offlive transcoded sequence? Or, would I have to batch digitize the HD Cam footage again to the transcoded offline sequence? I raise this question because I noticed that when I did a transcode test, it gave the clip a new name. Thank you for any workflow input you may have.

First, Avid had not yet qualified Snow Leopard for any version of the Media Composer software. As a Matter of fact, without a workaround, the software will not launch. You can find the workarounds in this post:

http://community.avid.com/forums/t/74863.aspx

We do expect to qualify Snow Leopard in a future release. No dates yet. As soon as we know anything, we'll post it here.

Big news for digital artists...

The long awaited ArtRage 3.0 to be released soon:
