Avid License Control Problem

Hello

I am using the Dongle license option.

I want to install the EDL Manager -

When I relaunch the Avid 6.5 Installer on my win 7 machine that has Avid MC6.5 installed on it - and I select 'Install Individual Products" from the Main Menu the Ticked / Installed Individual Products that come up are the QuickTime Codecs and Metafuze only

Media Composer is not shown as ticked - when it is indeed installed and patched to 6.5.2.1 - but maybe the ticks dont mean that they are installed?

So when I select a product to install (in this instance EDL Manager) I get told that I need to install Avid License Control -

So being of the accommodating sort - I do this and after quite a lengthy install process - we (my machine and I) go back to the menu to install Individual Products

I then re-select the product to install but we still need to install the license manager - this happens again and again until I get bored.

Installing Avid License Control never seems to work and I cannot install any of the yet to be installed individual products.

I have even tried clicking on Install Media Composer and this same requirement for the License Manager is required - so not sure what this is all about.

I can however launch MC6.5 and it runs fine so not quite sure what this license control manager nnsense is all about - but this may become a problem and I would really like to install the EDL manager.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I have tried to go via File, Send to, Encoding then Sorenson Squeeze and via Pro Tools and Quicktime but neither work.

Is there something I am missing?

Is there a quicker way? Final Cut X has a simple, 'Share - to Vimeo' process. Is there a similar simple way to do it?

Blurring in Avid MC looks wrong in MC Symphony..

Does anyone know what can be wrong here?

We use MC 6.0.3.3 on our offline edits. When our color corrector open the timeline in his Avid Symphony(6.0.3.3), the blurr's are positioned wrong...randomly.

Hey Guys

Sorry if this has been covered in a previous post, but I looked and all I could find was from 2009 and seems outdated. So basically, I am sick of working on Macs with the "Segmentation at 0X0" error that constantly randomly happens. I want to build a pc workstation. I was looking into the z820 and it seems overly expensive, I have moderate knowledge of assembling my own computers from the old 486 days. I was wondering if I can build my own workstation for a lot cheaper or if it will come out to around the same price?

Also, any tips on people who have succesfully built their own workstations would be greatly appreciated.

I was dismayed to discover, after upgrading from version 5.5 to 6.5 yesterday, that the Maxim plugin that I use QUITE extensively to do "brick wall" limiting no longer works, and I cannot find an equivalent plugin that will do this. I am desperate to hear anyone's suggestions...we have to clamp the audio to -17db and Maxim was the perfect solution. Now, I have no solution.

Improving Resolution when working with SD footage

I have a project using all old DVCAM clips, which I need to deliver as an upload for for the web. I did not digitize these clips myself--they were already given to me as a standard def Avid project on a hard drive. I found that changing the project resolution to HD (1920x1080 30p) before cutting the project, and then exporting a QT ref and using Squeeze to resize back to 640x480 when I create the Mp4 upload file results in a better image than cutting and exporting as an SD project. I have no idea why this is, but the improved quality difference is noticable.

I have PC windows 7 and media composer 6.5 and when I go to open title tool application only murquee open I thought I have choice of title tool or murquee. I soon as I click on title tool application murqee app open and give me no choice. please someone tell me how to get the title tool open? Thank you

Still editing in the "32-bit Dark Ages" using AMC 5.5.3.6 and an nVidia GeForce 8800 GT card, I rolled-the-dice a few hours ago and updated my graphics driver to the latest version 320.18 that includes the newly released "GeForce Experience" which claims: "by tapping into the NVIDIA Cloud, a vast server farm that tests the most popular games across a wide range of hardware configurations. AMC 6.5 from pre-6.0 upgrade download does NOT work

I am on Mac OS 10.8.3 and am using the latest version of Firefox.

I purchased the Media Composer 6.5 upgrade from pro-6.0. (I have 5.5 that I have uninstalled.)

First I had to go through the bother of installing a Java plug-in. Then I spent about an hour downloading the four files for the Macintosh. I thought it was odd that these appeared to be document files (the largest is 2.2 GB) instead of .dmg or .pkg files. I uninstalled version 5.5. I tried clicking on the downloaded files, but they are NOT executable files.

When I return to the website and click on "Download and Register My Products" (or something to that effect), I am asked for my access ID. If I copy and paste any of the access IDs that were emailed to me, I get an error. When I try to access technical assistance, I am asked for my Avid user name (email address) and password and they don't work in that damned screen.

I have been installing software packages for many years--including digital downloads--and never have I been through such a ridiculously futile and frustrating experience. I am very close to demanding a refund.

How do I get this *** to work?

DCP file format

I am about to start editing my first movie (a micro budget feature), and the Producer/Director says that in order to show a movie in a theater, it needs to be in the DCP format. I looked it up and it stands for Digital Cinema Package. Couldn't find too much info besides the basics.

My questions are:

Is this true?

Is this something I can output from Avid (Currently MC 6.5)?

Or Will there be another step to take outside of Avid, and if so, what?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Quicktime export fails from 6.5.2.1 on Mac 10.8.3

Hello - I've just upgraded a Mac symphony from 5.5.3 to 6.5.2.1 and updated the OS from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion (and it's on a Nitirs DX in case that matters to anyone). I have Quicktime 7.7.1 Pro running on the system too.

Quicktime exports fail outright. I can't export a sequence, or even a clip. The Avid popup for "preparing to export" just hangs. When I try to check the export options, the system hangs. Any suggestions?

We're a small production house mainly doing local commercials and long form videos. We're looking into getting our first HD camera and my photographer is considering the Sony NEX-EA50UH which I understand is basically a video camera based around DSLR technology. I'm just looking for other opinions on this camera and how well it works with Avid. Any issues I should be aware of? Would you recommend something else in the $4000 to $5000 price range?

I'm not a super tech guy and I worry about any camera's compatibily with Avid.

Avid crashes with Matrox box

I'm using MC 6.5 with Matrox box and software installed. I downloaded the MC 6.5.2.1 patch to work with Matrox but Avid is crashing on a fairly regular basis. When I take the Matrox box out of the picture, Avid seems to work just fine. Does anyone have any suggestions on fixing this problem?

I could also try going to OS 10.7 and downgrowing Avid to 5.5. Could a moderator let me know if I'm able to use the 6.5 license if I downgrade to MC 5.5 (without any charge)?

OT: Converting 29.97 to 24p? And the repercussions of doing so?

Hello, not necessarily an Avid question.

I have just received two Ep's of a show. Normally these are 2 camera shoots, 5D's both at 23.976. Audio recorded at 23.976 as well from an external recorder. Some multicam involved for interviews, etc. Some scenes are single cam. Also its an offline workflow to DNX36 where i then link picture lock to the original h264s and transcode again to 175.

These two episodes the ACAM was at 29.97 and the BCAM and Audio are both running 23.976. What are my options here?

I tried just out of sure panic to convert a take of the acam using mpeg streamclip to 23.976 but the audio wouldnt sync no matter how i tried, even pluraleyes failed, and there was a noticeable strobe in the footage.

Am i (or production more-so) screwed, or is there something we can do besides reshoot? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Weird video levels issue on import. Anyone know why?

So I just noticed that when I export a quicktime video file at DNX 145 with 601/709 levels in DS, and then reimport it at DNX 145 with 601/709 levels in DS, the levels get crunched. What should be 100 IRE is 92 IRE and ) 0 IRE becomes 7.5 IRE. Does anyone know why this is?

The weird thing is, if I export the file RGB and bring it in 601/709, it is fine. Also, if I export it 601/709 and bring it into Media Composer at 601/709 settiings, it is fine as well (but if I export same as source 601 in MC and bring it into DS, the same problem occurs). Anything I export from DS at 601/709 settings won't come back into DS with the right video levels.

My system was recently upgraded to 11.02. Could it be a bug there? I've tested movie files I previously exported before the update and they come in with the wrong levels too. However, these same movie files had been exported and imported in the past (also before the update) and had no issue.

Has anyone had this issue and/or could shed some light on it?

Canon C300 clips imported have edit in them, why is this?

This 25mins clip has 4 secetions in it when you are looking at it in Source timeline , once you edit it in to a sequence then it doensn't have these edits in them. They are not a problem I was just wondering if any one know why MC would do this?

Can't hear .mp3 audio in source

I'm relatively new to Avid editing and feel a little silly asking this, but I can't find what the problem seems to be. While I can hear and work with all other audio in the source mode, I cannot hear .mp3 music files loaded into that side. I have exhausted all resources looking for the answer, which I'm sure is completely obvious - i just can't find it. Any suggestions?

Got this regularly on V6.0.3 and just tried 6.5.2 and get same symptom . Step in, remove an effect and BANG - full blown crash 9 times out of 10. Also happens when replacing the clip at the bottom of the nest and even adding an effect in a nested clip. Anyone else?
