A fellow member of the DS Users Group (yes, we are still alive) shared this with me. He was experiencing glitchs when doing inserts into tape with Kona IO devices. Here is a condensed version of the post.
=========
Kona drivers:
12.4.0 - 12.4.2 - all have issues outputting either Assemble Edit or Insert Edit.12.3.7 - had the same issue but only on Insert Edit and only for the first frame.12.2.1 - no issue present.This was both on Win10 and Win7, running a Kona4 and a KonaLHi, and both running Avid MC 8.6.1.
Then he later posted the most important find:We found there is a bug in MC… and the setting of 10 bit or 8 bit in the timeline is what gives the flashes.. You need to make sure the timeline and digi cut tool match.. if they don’t it’s a flash as the card switches from one to the other at the in point..
He has reported to AJA. But hopefully this will help anyone running into the issue.
Good luck,
Jef

Here is an update.
We just installed a Kona 3G in a room we use to do tape outputs.
Installed AJA Kona Driver 12.4.2 MAC OS 10.9.5 MC 8.5.3
We get the issue describe above but even worse. If the sequence is set to 8 bit (full green) in the Video Quality Menu setting and you are going to a 10 bit record source (such as Sony SR) and the Digital Cut Tool Bit Depth tool is set on 10 bit, the video that is recorded is totally distored for the length of the edit on Inserts and Assembles. The inverse situation also applies.
If you make sure that the Video Quality Menu setting matches what the Digital Cut Tool Bit Depth tool says, then the recording will be good.
When the Digital Cut Tool Bit Depth tool is activated and you change the Bit Depth command in that tool, you will see the sequence Video Quality Menu changing to match. But seems as if this is a lie.
