Media Composer 2018.12.3 – Launching 4.2.19 @ 12:00 Noon
Avid is releasing Media Composer 2018.12.3 today, Tuesday, April 2nd, 2019 @ 12 PM EDT to address several issues.
Location at Launch: Updates to Media Composer (subscription and perpetual), and Media Composer | Ultimate will be released at the same time, and will be made available from Avid Master Accounts (MyAvid), Avid Link, and the Avid Download Center (login and password required).
What is fixed: The issues Media Composer 2018.12.3 addresses are:
- Bug Number: MCCET-2892. In some instances, playback would stop after adding an Audio Mark IN/OUT.
- Bug Number: MCDEV-10686. Clicking on the checkbox for “Enable Mask Margin” or “Include Inactive Audio Tracks” in the AAF export dialog did not enable the options.
- Bug Number: MCCET-2772. Clips may not have updated properly if you batch imported with Dynamic Relink enabled.
- Bug Number: MCCET-2895. On some systems, the memory usage would increase until the editing application became sluggish.
Limitations in this release:
- Bug Number: MCDEV-8641. (AMD Graphics). Systems with AMD graphics cards might display tearing when performing Full Screen playback.
- Bug Number: MCDEV-9460. Windows 7 systems with Nvidia Maxwell or Nvidia Pascal cards might experience playback issues that could result in “Play Consumer timeout” errors. Workaround: Select “Disable GPU Effects” in the Render Settings dialog box.
- Bug Number: MCDEV-9269. (Media Composer | Cloud) After performing a remote download operation on a sequence containing AVC-I 100 remote media, the downloaded media appears as XAVC-I 100. Workaround: Download the entire master clips.
- Bug Number: MCDEV-9011. Intermittently, when working with the XDCAM Nablet Plug-in, you might see “Failed to get the sample position from the AMA Plug-in” errors if you have waveforms enabled in the Timeline.
- Bug Number: COGS-2560. While working in the Script Window, text operations (cut/copy/paste/delete/editing) can only be done in edit mode. See “Editing a Script” in the Help.
- Bug Number: MCDEV-5650. When working with Panasonic LongG media, you might receive an “SFPlayConsumer Timeout” error if audio waveforms are enabled. Workaround: Turn off audio waveforms.
- Bug Number: MCDEV-5385. MultiCam editing with Panasonic LongG media is not supported with this release.

Hi camoscato,
Is this a general fix for 2018.12.2 ? Or are we no longer going by the monthly numbering? I.E 2019.4?
Also, I've been wonderign if there is a fix in sight for the crashes on exit of the application?

Thanks so much.
Per the readme, Qualified nVidia driver is now 411.95....but it's still 390.77 that comes in the Utilities folder ????
Should one just go & download 411.95 from nvidia.com (bypassing OEM certified/recommended driver like 419.17 for DELL laptops) ?
Also when I search for Nvidia Driver v411.95 I find that its not for Windows 10.
Also there is no disclaimer like previous versions that say:
"If you have a Quadro 4000 graphics card remain on the Nvidia v353.82 driver"
Please clarify.
Thanks
David
I can't tell you how happy I am with this update. The sluggishness became unbearable, because it was getting worse and worse until I did a restart, then everything was good again. I was already experimenting with all kinds of settings, and even uninstalled BM Desktop Video. Nothing worked, so this update is a godsend.

To BenoitM & david.feingold's point - the included driver should NAME the driver version (instead of just calling it "nVidiaDriverInstaller_win10.exe" etc.) Also not trusting the unnamed driver version, I quickly found the correct one online - here's the link for win 10:
https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/140131/en-us
It's confusing enough version-wise already without Avid compounding it by including unnamed driver versions.

As a workaround pretend to install the driver to find out the version: double click the nVidia installer, which will prompt You for a location to unpack named after the release version. I know it's clunky, but at least it works. Crossing fingers and going to try this release....

That's where it says 390.77....
I'm on an old Quadro K2000 graphics card - which driver should I use!? Have always thought a $1000 GFX card is overkill for video editing as we arent doing CAD or 3D?
Also is this new 'background save' a gag? My whole system freezes for 4" whilst it does a "background" save on a big project - and that's on a 2000Mbps write M2 SSD! I'd rather the 'honesty' of the old 'chill, I'm saving' pop up! Maybe its just my system :)
Ultimate 2022.12.1, Blackmagic Intensity Pro, WIN 11 on 7000Mbps M.2 SSD, Nvidia Quadro P4000, Asus Pro Art Z690 i9 12900k 5.0 GHz, 8TB M.2 SSD - its nippy!
FWIW: I've always been on the lowest supported graphic card, so far so good. Not jumped on 2018.12.3 yet, but good old ordinary save is pretty fast, even on huge projects, I do not really feel like I need background save, especially since it seems that it still needs to exit the beta stage.
Background save IMO is one of the best new features of Avid Media Composer, and it has been long overdue. Autosave was one of my main frustrations, because it always seemed to kick in when I was about to do something creative. And clients sometimes don't understand why I freeze when we are in the middle of something. On my system (which is quite new and fast) autosave works as it is supposed to. I expect Media Composer 2019 to have an even more sophisticated auto-save mechanism, where each edit decision is saved rightaway so zero loss in in case of a crash.
I think this 2018.12.3 release is the best release Avid has ever turned out. It is fast and stable: a real workhorse. Avid seems to renumber the december release so as to avoid having to call it Avid Media Composer 2019, which is the name for the new revamped Media Composer. This latest december release will be around a long time until people dare to start using this new and no doubt buggy new product.

Wierd timeline issue. On Video timeline layers we are getting 2 or 3 duplicate layers. IE, 3 V10s and 3 V11s and 3 V12s. Odd. W10x64
Does anyone know if Titler+ bugs have been ironed out in this newest version? I am trying to use Titler+ with 2018.12.2 right now on a system with RTX2020 graphics card and I'm having all sorts of weird font issues. Typing with basic font is sluggish. Some fonts just don't look like they're supposed to. Even the effect editor has bugs: changing "size" parameter affects "width percentage" parameter and the fonts don't scale without getting squished. It's basically useless to me.

Hey there
A bunch of them were tweaked in 2018.12.3... and I suspect there will be more done in the May release.
I woudl definately upgrade to 2018.12.3 if you can
