I need to learn how to import a logo and/or image without any background so that I can see video behind it and through empty spaces it may have. I have PhotoshopCS5 and MC6.5. No AE. What is the best workflow and filetypes for creation and import/export between apps, or when acquiring logos from a client? Are there any video tutorials showing the process and PS tutorial on how to remove white background from a pic of a logo?
Create your logo artwork in Photoshop with a transparent background. Save it in a file format that supports alpha channels. Photoshop's native file format will do, but I get cleaner results with PNG files.
Import the artwork into Avid with the alpha channel set to invert. You will find the setting for this in Options... in the import dialog.
Then edit the logo on a layer above your existing video. You can resize and reposition the artwork by opening it in the timeline with the effects tool.
Here is an old tutorial of mine on the Photoshop way into MC
Here is another where you trace an image in Avid FX and use it as a 3D logo.
If the tutorials do not play in your Browser, try using Firefox.
If they still do not play contact me off-forum and I will popint you to another solution

And you can promote the matte key clip you will get from the import to 3D (look for the 3D button in the bottom of the effect editor tool), to give you many additional parameters to adjust, including rotation, cropping, shadows, etc.

Thanks, this helped a lot.
You're quite welcome. We're always glad to help out.
The PNG files you create will also load into Marquee. It's a handy way to have the client's logo within the titles.
