The NAD Centre is one of Canada's major training centre for new technologies and new media. The NAD Centre is an Avid DS Authorized Training Centre (ATC) and home to current and future television, film and electronic entertainment professionals who share their expertise, unique approaches and job market knowledge. Benoit Melançon, Avid DS ACI, presented the school production pipeline for 3D animation and visual effects. His presentation highlighted the specificity of incorporating digital contents, challenge and good practices using DS systems. Coming mainly from a Media Composer background, the crowd exchanged a lot of ideas with Benoit on the different pros and cons of each systems.
Denis Boisvert, documentary editor and, for the past 12 years, is the owner of the small postproduction house LES PRODUCTIONS MANITOU. He has edited over 40 documentaries and has received 3 Gémeaux Awards for best documentary editing (2001-2002-2003). Denis presented on the feasibility and difficulties encountered while editing the documentary "Le déshonneur des casques bleus". This documentary was shot in HDV and included over 60 hours of video shot in 720-30p, as well as several portions shot in DVCPRO HD 1080i and HDV 1080i. To top it off, some archive material were shot in 480i. The finished product was edited with Avid Xpress Pro and broadcasted in HD on Radio-Canada.
The meeting had 39 attendees many of whom are industry veterans. Since this was the first meeting, it was a great opportunity for them to ask for volunteers and discuss what the members wanted from the group. They are looking forward to future meetings and hope to have their next meeting in June.
