Even with the mercury dipping to a low -9C, the Bravo Studio was packed as ATUG President Peter Hordylan introduced Eric Gardner from Channel Wolves who flew all the way from Boston, Mass., earlier that day to present an in-depth demo of BCC 5.
And speaking of traveling a long distance, a group of students from Canadore College in North Bay led by Professor Steve Ray, traveled 4 hrs to join us. Welcoming them and of course Eric, the show got on the road. Once again, the meeting was held at the CTV South building. This meeting’s topic: Boris Continuum Complete 5 AVX and Boris Blue 2.
From realtime blurs to advance chroma keying, Eric showed off as many of the 170 plus filters as time allowed before the attendees were given the opportunity to "get their hands dirty" on several AVID workstations. SIM Video (Toronto, Vancouver, California, China) and Dynamix Professional Video Systems (Toronto) provided 2 Media Composers and 8 Avid Xpress Pro systems for use as demo stations. The members took full advantage of what they had just learned by actually applying it themselves on the trial stations while Eric stood by to answer any and all questions.
Meanwhile, Peter Hordylan met with a group of our members to discuss and answer questions on the business of freelance editing. Some of the topics discussed included billing, marketing, networking, accounting & taxes, rates, Guild memberships and purchasing equipment. Those who joined the discussion either got answers to questions or added to the conversation.
To cap the evening off, they had a drawing for many great prizes including a full version of Boris Blue 2, which was donated by Channel Wolves.
Many thanks to Avid, Channel Wolves, Sim Video, Dynamix, CTV and the ATUG executive council who made this event a success.
