What are the ingredients for a great user group meeting?  Well if you looked at the October 25th Toronto user group recipe you would mix up the following...

1    Cool downtown Toronto TV station for the venue
120+ local editing professionals and video enthusiasts
1    panel discussion consisting of:
2    editors from a scripted TV series
2    editors from a reality based TV series
1    moderator
1    Sony representative to show off the new HDCAM
1    representative from Dynamix to present tapeless workflow tips

Mix all ingredients together, sprinkle on some snacks and beverages and top with some fun raffle items.  Then sit back and enjoy.

This was the successful formula as the new President of the group Peter Hordylan hosted his first meeting.  Former President Al Mitchell was there to assist and was presented with a gift and an award for his 10 years of service.

Eric Abboud, Post Production Producer of Project Runway Canada, was moderator of the panel.  The panel featured Lisa Grootenboer, editor and Hugh Elchuk, assistant editor, of the Showtime/CBC drama "The Tudors"; Owin Lambeck, editor of "Canada’s Next Top Model" and Kerry Davies, editor of  the sitcom, “Da’ Kink in My Hair”.

The audience was very interested listening to the differences in editing styles and techniques when editing from a script versus editing a non scripted reality show.

Share your recipe for successful usergroup meetings.
