Cell Phones for Soldiers

Only published comments... Feb 14 2008, 03:05 PM by ejose

You can help our troops call home by donating a new or used cell phone, with or without a battery.  Having spent time in the gulf during the first Gulf War, I know how difficult it can be to phone home.

The Cell Phones for Soldiers program will accept your new or used cell phone no matter what the condition.

You can drop off your phone at more than 1,800 AT&T stores across the United States.

Do they accept WiFi SIP internet telephones like this one www.skifactz.com/.../wifi_sip_phone.htm

Presumably the calling cost a lot less when using an internet phone. Kind of like Skype.

The program is limited to only cell phones.  The other problem with WiFi phones is that many military sites block VOIP traffic.

Actually, I called "Cell Phones for Soldiers" and they said they accept WiFi VOIP phones. Go figure.
